Heartbreak Hands?

Post by Tomcat1569 »

Maybe this topic has been posted before, but last night's near home run hand had me wondering what other near misses fellow VP.com'ers have had over the years. At Harrahs AC I was playing five cent, three line Super Times Pay. An A-J of diamonds came out, followed by the 8x multiplier. After the multiplier settled into place, the next two cards dealt were ... K-Q of diamonds for the first four to the royal! My heart was racing. Of course the next card was a blank. Even on the redraw I was looking at a potential $1,600 per line jackpot hand. The three redraw cards came blank, blank and a non-royal diamond for an 8x flush.  Certainly that $4,800 near-dealt royal was the closest huge non-jackpot I've ever experienced, followed by a similar 2x near dealt $2,000 quarter royal a couple years ago in Florida. What are your biggest heartbreak hands of all time? I'm sure there are some whoppers out there ...

I am pretty much immune to them too, but this one particularly event was frustrating. About 5 years ago I was playing 100 play JOB with all 100 hands and 5 coins in per line. I was dealt AKQ of clubs. Drew almost nothing on the draw. On the following hand, I was dealt J,10, of clubs, along with the KQ of clubs. After the last miserable draw, I was sure that this time needing only the Ace of clubs to complete my Royal for the dealt hand and possibly match up several more on the 99 other hands I would go home a big winner. Since I was playing in a high traffic area of the casino, several other people had gathered to watch the draw. I removed the turbo button from on to off so I could see better as each final hand developed. NOTHING!!!. I can't remember for sure, but I don't think I even got my money back on that hand. Since then, I don't get excited anymore, even when the Royal hits. It is nice when they do just the same.

Since I have gotten TWO dealt RFs playing $1 Double Pay games in the last two years, I have no reason to feel any heartbreak when I get close to another.

Redraws on TDB started with AA4410 kept AA up comes 443 I kept right cards but return $1.25 versus $500 (sad),didn't do this had right had KK337 TDB kept only KK up comes 334 win 1.25 versus $500 should have kept two pair. Have had this happen twice on TDB had AAKQ5 three to RF kept AA up come JT would given RF, other time was AA can remember others to RF but the two redraw cards would given me RF got my 1.25 oh boy. Joy! (lol) Like OLDS442 said I have seen so many times if kept other cards out come would have been big wins but cant change it so keep trying play and not stay upset/mad if I am losing that hand is all over and have to move on but,it must have made impact on me because I remember these out comes. This is just a few probably 50 to 100 hands or more but the hands were lower pay outs than these, most were four of akind. Just try and move on and don't let it impact your play.(you will think about it later/dream). Sam

Yeah.  It takes draw like those to get your heart racing.  I think I've seen 4 to a royal on 5x multiplier 10 handed playing dollars.  That's a 200k hand if it's dealt.  Just have to shrug it off and keep going. On a recent trip I had 4 to a royal 2 times in a 10 minute period playing 10 handed.  I really felt down when nothing hit either time. Of course, I've pulled royals holding a single card, so what can you say. Roveer

I was just playing quarter TDB spin poker and was dealt 4 Aces and a King as the middle card. Obviously I held the aces and hoped for kickers, since each one would have been worth $3K. (With that configuration in spin poker each kicker would have given three lines of 4000 credits instead of 800.) Not to be today - no kickers. This was a hard one to swallow since any one of 12 cards (2s, 3s, or 4s), not just 1 single card, would have been a winner. Such is the roller coaster that is video poker.

OK - I just beat my own heartbreak story with one that hurt even more. I was playing Ultimate X 10-hand in quarters and was dealt first a full house, meaning that on the next hand all 10 lines would have a 12X multiplier.Well these multipliers dropped into place and then I was dealt 4 to a royal. Of course the heart rate increased substantially, but that was very short lived as none of the lines connected for a RF winner, and only 2 lines connected for basic flushes. I stared at the screen for a while on that one, so I'm pretty sure the image will stay with me for a while.
