Pet Peeve: Single Credit Players

Post by Lucky Larry »

Phil always does a good job of starting topics but I don't want to take over his. One of my pet peeves - players playing one hand/one credit on multi-hand games. We have more than one regular who will play 1 hand / 1 credit 5¢ on 100 play machines. Since there are only 4 -100 play at Isle it doesn't take much to kill a night when the 1/1 gals are there. One regular is there almost every night smoking a pack at a time, playing a nickel a hand, then hitting a quad she is up to cash out and then back at it again for hours.

I'm with you on this!  I see it all the time.  Very aggravating.  How about the players that play ONE CENT on a hundred play machine???

It can be annoying, but if there is no min bet requirements, it's their right. Because unfortunately, penny machines are generally difficult to find that are NOT 50/100 play. Ironically enough, my closest casino has over a dozen game kings that are 1-play penny units where the max bet is $1, but the royal pays 800 for 1 as low as 5c. The best game is 6/5 Super Double Bonus (96.87%), which isn't terrible for a minimum of 5c per hand, but not many people play the machines.

I particularly get annoyed by this when they do it on a Super Times Pay unit. You have to bet 6 to get that bet! Move to some random triple play machine if you want to bet one. :)

I also hate when people do this. A lot of times they will do this on Ultimate X machines just to keep someone else from playing. Why play if you aren't going for multipliers...

Sometimes, someone is sitting at my fave (read lucky) machine, doing NOTHING but watching their spouse/friend play on the next machine. Fortunately, they move when I ask very nicely if they are going to play that machine. So far, no one got hurt! I post this to encourage you to do likewise. I notice this situation more when the casino is crowded.

At Harrahs New Orleans a few years back, they only had two multi-line VP machines with TDB, but dozens of multi-line machines with DDB. I patiently waited at a QuickQuad machine for one of those two machines to open up. When it did, I cashed out, but before I could get to the machine, a lady jumped in that seat. She was playing one coin DDB.

I waited a while, but when it was apparrant that she was not going anywhere, I tried to explain to her that she had one of only two machines that had the game I wanted to play, while there were several open machines a short distance away with her game. She told me, in true New Orleans fashion, to "Go F&%@ Myself".

I said maybe she didn't understand what I was telling her. Then some guy sitting nearby jumps in my face, and tells me that maybe if he kicked my ass, I would understand what that meant.

By this time, a floor person had come by. I showed my 7Star Card, and told the lady to go right ahead and play.

I then turned to the guy, and told him that only two things could come from this, and both would be bad for him. Since I would let him take the first swing, he would either (A) miss me, in which case, he would not be able to remember what happened next, or (B) hit me, in which case, I would have him arrested for assault and sue him for damages. I told him that we are all on camera, so he would be able to review the whole episode. He cashed out his machine, and walked away.

The floor person said to me "What just happened?"

Since then, I have been reluctant to start a dialog with a one-coiner.

I hate it when players leave their quads on the screen. Hit the button one more time for darn sake.

Yeah, DD. Have they no regard for your self esteem? Even worse, a winnah left quad deuces w kicker on DWB machine at Greektown yesterday. I played that machine anyway and nothing good happened. I did not heed the warning.

Our favorite single line DDB progressive bank also has other VP, slot and keno games on it. Only the 0.25 DDB is progressive, not other denominations or games. What irks us is that there are plenty of regular slots, VP and keno machines in the casino yet the progressive bank seems to attract 2 coin players, keno players, etc. which sometimes keep us from playing and more often impacts the progressive meters.

Our other peeve is finding seats away from smokers at a bank with open seats and then have a smoker sitting next to us after we have been playing for awhile and begin puffing away like crazy and holding their cigarette out towards us. When politely asked, most will be considerate and try and keep the smoke away from us but others arrogantly believe it is their right not only to kill themselves, that's their prerogative, but us as well. Unfortunately, there are very little if any non-smoking areas in local casinos, with extremely limited VP options.

On my most recent trip, both Harrahs Joliet and Horseshoe Hammond made me spin off the winning hand before they left to get my handpay money.
