Michael Charley no more...

Post by roveer »

I had heard change was in the air...  One of my regular attendants told me they were planning on changing out machines with the newer models.  On the last day of my visit last week there were little signs on all the machines (in the row designated as MC (Michael Charley)), saying that at 4am they would be taken out of service.  Knowing what was coming, I played my last rounds and said goodbye.  When I arrived at Harrah's this Friday night it had happened.  My favorite row, the row that I have posted so many of my STP wins from was no more.  Replaced by the newer electronic, flat screen STP machines.  They were half gutted, no bill accepters, no card readers.  As I made my way around the casino, I noticed that so many machines were being changed out it seemed like 1/4 of the casino was out of service.  Yet, nobody working on setting up new machines.  So I went about my business and as the night progressed I went to all of my regular huants and out of the 4-5 places I normally play, all but 1 had been effected.  This left me with 1 bank of 4 machines in which to play, and of course that one bank was totally swamped by all of the displaced players.  I think Harrah's did a incredibly bad job in this upgrade, leaving an entire game type out of service in their entire casino.  I've seen them do machine swaps in a matter of an hour and have the new machines up and accepting play.  What I'm seeing now is a 2 week swap.  I emailed my host to ask her to check with the slot manager to see when the machine would be in service and was told Wednesday.  In my estimation this was a fail on a very popular machine. So, let's see what happens.  I will meet this with a bit of skeptisism as I am not a big fan of the new machines.  I've noticed that Caesars AC has totally decimated their pay tables with a 35 coin FH.  I've been admonished over the years here for accepting a 40 coin FH to play in Caesars Ent properties but I have accepted it.  If they try this 35 coin crap in Harrah's it might just be time to move on.  I'll be watching closely.  Unfortunatly,  Harrah's  is my gateway to many other casino's, locations and Vegas.  No other casino chain offers access to as many properties, and Harrah's is one of the nicer AC properties, especially because it is not on the boardwalk. Change is enevitable, so I just have to manage it.  Be sure I'll report back. Roveer.

Interesting, Roveer. I was in Biloxi last week, and stopped by The Grand, a Caesars/Harrah's property. They were gutting two rows of single line VP machines. The guy doing the work would not tell me what was being changed.

I wonder if this is an enterprise-wise move?

I believe it's enterprise. I was in Bally's on Sunday and their casino was basically shut down, looked like almost all of their machines were being swapped. Caesars changed out many of their machines over the past 2 months.

Are the 4 upright STP machines in Diamond Cove still there?  They were still there as of this past Thursday night, when I hit a nice $13,000+ jackpot on one of them.

Pretty much. Harrah's Tunica, Roadhouse, and Horseshoe all got these new units too.

The game kings have meh paytables there. Except 9/6 DDB and 9/7 DB for dollars or more. The All Star II machines they put in at Roadhouse are total garbage. No games above 97%.

If they really downgrade DOLLARS to 7/5 DDB in AC, I strongly urge you to quit, roveer. Or at the least move to a non-CET property. I have seen on another forum that they have a 5-play dollar machine with 9/5 DDB at Golden Nugget.

The deal was announced late last month.

I also hate the newer units when you play "Double Super Times Pay" on them. They allow the draw multiplier to appear after you have drawn all your cards...lol This leads to many more results where you see a multiplier appear after you know you have a losing hand. The older units always make the draw multiplier appear before the last card is drawn... Such a stupid way to reprogram the machine.

Roveer, have they replaced the triple play 25 cent progressive machines at Bally's?  There is a bank of 12 to 16 of them and they feature a royal flush progressive on each individual game plus another much bigger royal flush progressive if you are lucky enough to get a royal on the draw.

Yes, those are the only working STP machines I could find. They have changed to much, they even changed the NEW STP machines next to the diamond cove cage (which were upgraded 2 months ago), to even newer low top machines.  Can't tell what they will be as they have no toppers on them and they are not turned on yet.  I counted no less than 5 areas that have been totally ripped apart. 1.  Diamond Cove.  2.  Smoking Area STP3.  Smoking Area Rear Corner by Brig enterence4.  UX Area next to Exhibit Bar5.  STP clusters near high limit area and main cage The place is basically ripped up.  Hopefully it will get back to normal soon. Roveer

Oh believe me, if I find they have messed with the pay tables, that will signal my exit.  I tolerated the bad pay tables, but taking yet another bite is totally unnaceptable with me.  I'll wait and see what happens.  Times they are a chang'n. Roveer

I've played a couple of the newer STP machines like these:

But what I'm seeing are even stranger variations. The STP machines being installed at Harrah's look a lot like these:

I'm even seeing what I call low rise machines being installed in the Harrah's Diamond Cove. Can't seem to find a pic of those.

So these new machines seem to be the newest designs. I am not crazy about those bright multiscreen monsters that recently showed up (including STP and UX). The ones they installed in my row seem a little different but they are not yet lit up so I won't know exactly until I see them. Let's hope the newer machines and possible paytable fiddling don't wreck it completely for me or so long CET!!!
