Turning $30 into $3000...

Post by DezJeep »

Went to Valley View Casino (N. San Diego County) to use some food comps.  Had $30 on me and didn't plan to play at all but decided to use some of my free play that I had on my players club card.  Sat down at one of my regular machines (Ultimate X) and inserted the $30.  Got a few decent hits on nickels and dimes and was up about $100 in a few minutes.  Switched to quarters and on the first spin got thisAlmost hit the cash out button right there but decided to play on.  Couple minutes later got a few more good hits and was up to thisThen this:A few minutes later...Wow....on a roll.  Once again almost hit the cash out button but decided "what the hell", I'll switch to straight DDB on single hand dollars.Went home with this:What a night!  Pure luck and little skill I guess.

Nice run.The starting amount isn't particularly significant. Most players who start with $30 still have more money in their pocket. If the first $30 goes, they add more. The fact that this happened on the first money you put in on a particular day doesn't much matter. Occasionally, some days are like that.Every player has a few good sessions --- at least. If you play a lot, you've had more than a few. Far more important are the results over the last year or two. Those longer term results are a better indicator on how much this particular day represented luck and how much was due to skill.Bob

Very nice run DJ, I think I enjoy seeing quad aces more than I do royals. This doesn't mean that I'd turn down a royal though, lol...
  Congrats again.

Congratulations on the great run. Luck and skill combined work every time. I am curious. What denominations are available on Ultimate X and what's the pay table on Ultimate X Double Double Bonus at Valley View Casino?

First off, nice run of luck/endurance, turning 30 into 3000.....I personally never get lucky with my freeplay so I am jealous, but still happy for you.   Regarding Bob's post, I do not disagree with the underlying message here, but this talk of "SKILL" as it pertains to Video Poker is somewhat overemphasized. The things we speak of as skill are more aptly termed "memory" and "endurance" and "Conscientiousness". Success at VP requires an excellent memory so you can make the correct plays as they present themselves given the game you choose to play.   Endurance is needed in the sense that, after many hours of play you still need to be as sharp as always, otherwise errors accrue even if you know the correct play.....perhaps connected to endurance is "self awareness", another needed component so that a player knows his/her limit and does not push past normal endurance. And "conscientiousness" (or discipline) is needed in that we always play the correct way (no gut calls), play at casinos offering the best VALUE; we play within our bankroll, and we do not drink or smoke pot or drop acid or snort coke before or during VP sessions. "SKILL", in my mind, is what Tom Brady has when throwing the football....or what my Urological Surgeon has when he blasts my kidney stones to smithereens.   If SKILL applied to VP, I would think it might be something like always hitting the draw button at exactly the right moment, or something like that!   Dexterity type thing..... In Video Poker, you need the above mentioned qualities, and then you need some LUCK, maybe a LOT of LUCK, pure and simple.   Actually no maybe about it.....as skilled as even Brb Dancer is, even he needs to get lucky once in a while, or perhaps a better way to put it is he needs to AVOID being UNLUCKY for extended periods, since he always makes the right play and never makes errors.  But "Skill"???   I dunno, semantics I guess......what does everyone else believe???

"Well, I believe in the soul, the c&(^, the p@(&), the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days."

Interestingly enough, I caught one of my largest VP jackpots, $72k, on a dealt RF in $1 3-way DoublePay while stumbling toward the elevators at The Beau after perhaps one too many Makers Marks from the beautiful cocktail waitresses there. My playing session was over for that night, but I decided to finish my drink before going upstairs, and threw in a hundred.

Goes to show ya....
