Are the Odds the same?
Just wondering if the odds are the same no matter what type of VP you are playing? I play DDB and TDB and hit the 4 Aces with the kicker many times on DDB but can't ever seem to tag it on TDB. I always thought the odds were the same they just make their money on the payout table such as in only paying 10 for trips but I am starting to wonder if they are programmed differently?

The odds are not the same between games. But, it's not because of the way the poker machines themselves are programmed. It IS because the strategy you employ in different games is modified for that particular game making hitting different hands have different probabilities of occurring.I haven't pulled up the odds charts, but think I can "logic" this out in an example. In JOB you will always hold two pair to draw to a full house. But in Double Double Bonus, you throw away a low pair if you have a pair of Aces in order to draw to the high paying 800 or 2000 coin Quad Ace. Because of this, the probabilities would be lower in DDB than in JOB of hitting a full house.I just went back and read that and had trouble making sense of it. Maybe someone else can explain it better.

I think you did just fine, Mike. The important thing to remember is that once you decide to hold any particular set of cards (for example, a pair or a 4 to a flush), the odds of hitting any particular result are the same regardless of what game you are playing.
The fact that the results have been different for DDB and TDB is just normal random streakiness. Continue playing and someday you'll see the opposite occur.

For a dealt hand like A,A,A,K,K the chance of drawing the last ace and the kicker are the same regardless of the game being played. Sounds like you're just in a run where you're getting that nice hit on DDB and not TDB - that's all it is. Over time it evens out.
What makes things complicated is what MikeA points out. The paytables vary for each game, which means that some dealt hands involving one or more Aces are played differently depending on the game you're playing. So if you're looking at things in the sense of - "I get Aces with the kicker every 'x' hours on THIS game, but every 'y' hours on THAT game" - that's the reason.

Ok that is what I was wondering. I just wanted to make sure the odds of getting 4 aces with the kicker was not programmed lower on the CPU because of the 4000 payout compared to the 125 on JOB.

Sure. Just remember that quads of any kind are only a small part of your total hands played (about one quarter of one percent) and Aces w/kicker are rarer still. That means that 99.75% of your hands in a JoB game are going to be losing ones, or lesser pays. An awful lot of play going on between those nice hits......which is why the paytables are so important.
They've got a "Statistics" button on the main page of this site that shows how many hands it takes, on average, for quads/SF/Royals. They're kind of generic numbers that vary somewhat depending on what specific JoB games you play, but well worth looking at.

Or, better yet, one of the big lotteries ... wait, I didn't buy a ticket. OK, I guess I'll stick with VP.

Or, you can gripe about getting that nice hit on $1 play when it could have been $5. Congratulations on that one. Go out and buy some lottery tickets - and *don't* gripe about the taxes on that if you win!
