CNN Series - Death Row
As many of you here on this site already know, my sister, along with three teenage co-workers, were shot and killed over 20 years ago. The individual responsible, Nathan Dunlap, had been arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced to death, per Colorado law. Over 20 years of appeals have been exhausted, and have not overturned his conviction or sentencing, which now awaits the Governor of Colorado's signature. The Governor, although elected on a position of support for the death penalty, refuses to sign the execution order, instead renaming Death Row to "Administrative Segregation" .
Many of you have expressed your sympathies for myself and my family regarding this tragedy, and I am sincerely grateful.
I wanted to make you aware that CNN has produced a series of telecasts on Death Row inmates. I have not viewed any, and I do not know how they are portrayed. I do know that some of the people involved in the CNN production include Robert Redford and Susan Sarandon, so I am a little suspicious of the tone of the storytelling.
The episode on Nathan Dunlap is scheduled to air on CNN on Sunday, July 27th. If interested, check your local listings for the broadcast time.

Very sorry to hear that billyjoe. Sorry we can't drag him to either of our home states. Florida and Missouri have had 11 of the 23 executions nationwide this year.
You going to dare watch the show? It probably will be an anti-death penalty slant for sure.

I had no idea, Billy. I am so, so sorry. What a horrible, sad tragedy. I cannot imagine the pain and suffering shared by yourself and your family.
I don't believe I will be watching, but I, too, have a feeling it will be biased. I truly hope I am wrong, been naive for years, why change now....

If people like Redford and Sarandon are involved I can only imagine the spin that will be put on it. I am also wondering if the ex-Governor if Illinois,George Ryan, will be mentioned on the show as he is responsible for putting a moratorium on the death penalty in Illinois. Richard Speck and John Wayne Gacy lived much longer lives than the people they murdered.

I didn't know anything about that Billy and am so sorry for your loss. It is really hard to find peace and move on when politics gets involved like this instead of justice. Keeping you in my prayers.

billyjoe,
I am so sorry that you and your family have suffered so greatly.
That said, I can only hope that justice will be served and that Dunlap suffers the same way Joseph Wood did yesterday in Arizona.

All any of the families of the victims wanted was appropriate justice, and to follow the law as it had been established by the people of Colorado. What angers all of us is, over 20 years, hundreds of people's time and effort, and thousands of taxpayer dollars, have been spent to uphold the law as the appeals process was taken to conclusion. Then, at the end, one man decides to ignore all that, and refuses to sign the execution warrant, for no specific reason other than he doesn't want to.

I know the case well Billy, as you know. Colorado Gov. Hickenlooper is up for re-election now & has a good chance of being tossed out of office in no small part due to his decision to indefinitely stay Dunlap's execution. His strongest rival right now...Bob Beauprez & others have vowed to end the stay order as soon as sworn in, if elected. I know the wheel sometimes turns slow, but justice will be done in the end.

Considering what happened in Arizona yesterday, I dunno about that just yet. States seem to be batting about 50% on botching executions lately.
