Hand Frequency Question

In a standard DDB Video Poker game, can anyone please tell me the average percentage of hands that pay 3 coins or more?   I think it's about 20% of the hands, but I'm not sure.  Thanks!

Not sure, but on a 10/6 DDB game, which is over 100% return (see if you can find THAT anywhere), playing quarters, you need a bankroll of over $180k to reduce your Risk of Ruin to 1%.

My point - paytables can be overrated for the recreational player if you think positive paytables, plus perfect play, will guarantee you to be a winner.

I can't process 3 coins, so I will tell you the frequency of wins 15 or more at max bet.

Easiest is to look at the frequency of wins less than this.

In 9/6 DDB These are:

No win: 55.28%
Jacks or Better (5): 21.13%
2 Pair (5): 12.30%

Those add up to 88.71%

So hands with 15 or more credits won (3 of a kind or better) make up the remaining 11.29%

So you have a 1 in 9 chance of getting a 3oak or better hand playing ddb.

Yes, but those hands make up 66.56% of the game's return.

21% of the game's return is jacks or better, since it happens the most (1 in 5 hands).

Easiest way to figure it is to go to the Wizard paytable for your game. For this example, I used 9/6 DDB. Add up the probabilities of the various hands paying 3 or better and divide 1 by that number. As just posted below it is about 9 or actually just under every 9 hands.

That would be true of most games. Playing Jacks or Better is actually less often than that for 3 of a kind if you play it right. Except of course my favorite game Deuces. Then you'll get 3 of a kind or better 45% of the time.

Was there a reason to write this in this thread? I agree though, thinking a positive machine will make you a guaranteed winner is a bad idea. But the answer to the question is still close to one in nine for 7/5 DDB too.

If you want to guarantee that you come out ahead on your efforts, get a job.

If you enjoy gambling and want some of the best returns of any casino game, play video poker and learn to play it well.

I interpreted the question, though, as one of wanting to know if you can expect a profit on a regular basis from DDB.
