When I get to discussing with friends the ALL-TIME greatest accomplishments in Sports (all Sports), certain things get mentioned automatically like Joe Dimmagio's 56 game hitting streak, Wayne Gretzky (everything), Ted Williams hitting .400, Michael Jordan's BAck-to-Back-to-Back (twice) trophies, Secretariat's Triple crown.....etcJohn Wooden's run at UCLA is also in the same category as something that will never ever be topped or duplicated, and the fact that he did it WHEN he did it for as LONG as he did it, is mind boggling. Most coaches and Managers of sports teams typically get too much credit for their team's success (and too much blame for losing).....but in Wooden's case (as with College Basketball in general) as the coach he was singularly responsible for building that program and achieving and maintaining its success. In other words, John Wooden is one of the FEW examples of a coach who DESERVES the MAJORITY of credit for his teams' success over the years.
