Chicagoland Visit - Nov 2014

Post by BillyJoe »

Just returned from a visit to Chicago. Based on the weather that is currently going on up there today, it looks like I got back to FLA just in time.

It was a nice trip, visiting with both family and friends. Had a great pizza night with my sister, and then a nice family night steak dinner with my sister, my niece and her husband at The Reserve. I even met Tedlark, and had a chance to chat with him while at Harrahs Joliet.

On VP, I had mixed results, but overall, a down trip. I was stopped from taking pics of any of my handpays, though, by the floor staff at Harrahs, which kinda surprised me. I don't remember it being that way previously. I did catch some nice hands, primarily on Super Triple Play and Five Star Poker machines at the $1 denom. No huge blockbuster wins, though. A woman playing next to me on $1 STP Spin Poker ($54 / pull) was dealt four Queens, with a 5X up, which was $11,250. Very nice hit to see.

I played a new (at least for me) table game in Joliet called High Card Flush. Relaxing game, but tough to win any big money.

On Sunday, I went over to visit some friends in Indiana. They wanted to go to Four Winds. I was surprised at the wide variety of VP available, and at pretty favorable pay tables. I even found a 9/7 TDB game. Of course, with good VP paytables, I can't win, and that was the case there.

Sounds like a nice relaxing trip this time BJ. Always nice to catch up with family and friends especially if you have things in common like vp. I wouldn't mind having some Chicago Pizza right now. If it has a red sauce on it, I like it period. Nothing special to report from back east. Wish I could find 9/7 TDB out here though. Same deal out here on not winning with the good paytable machines.

Sorry I didn't meet up with you billyjoe. Didn't realize your plans changed to Four Winds before it was too late. I definitely like Four Winds, they have a lot of cheap options.

Took a mild beating at Horseshoe on Sunday. Tried to channel my inner you today at Joliet though. Hitting this first helped my courage for what was to come.

Lost $50 on other $1/$2 opportunities, then...

First time playing a $5 machine...

Biggest one day win in my life...yay Up over $500. My adrenaline was pumping the most since the first time I tried Ultimate X for dollars. I definitely needed a cooling off period.

Hopefully the elusive quarter (or higher) royal will outdo this sooner than later...

Also the Harrah's Joliet buffet actually offers Chicago style pizza too, olds. Wasn't bad. But when visiting Chicago you gotta go somewhere with a rep...

Also I likely found the guy that generated those chances. Later I saw him on two machines playing $500 per hand at the $5 level...with two slot attendants constantly unlocking his machine.

We had a movie to catch ("Maleficent") before he left though...

Guys, Vito & Nicks at 8433 S. Pulaski Rd. was recently voted best pizza in Illinois during a Yahoo poll. Only about 8 blocks from my house but I rarely go there because then it wouldn't be such a treat when I do get it.

Great job Vman96 with the left behind multiplier on UX. Don't have the guts to pull the trigger on the higher demon UX with the multiplier left behind but have done pretty good with the .05-.25.

I was at Four Winds Sunday as well. I didn't do too well, but my wife hit a royal at the 1 line bar machines holding only 1 jack.

Well, Sunday was chaotic with my friends over in Indiana, so I had no clue where we would be and when. It was fun, though.

For pizza, my favorite is Traverso's on Harlem Ave and about 159th Street. This was "Ken and Dick's Pizza" in Roseland when I was in Mendel High School. That was our hangout, along with the Jesuit priests that taught at Mendel. I guess that you just get that flavor implanted in your mouth when you grow up, because for me, it is the absolute best pizza in a city with a lot of great pizza places.
