Horseshoe Tunica
I just received a Total Rewards offer to visit Horseshoe Tunica Casino. Can anyone tell me if they have been and what your opinion of the area/casino are. My offer is for $199 flying direct from Rockford, IL to Tunica, MS. Includes air transportation, ground transportation and deluxe hotel for two at Horseshoe Tunica. Thoughts, opinions, suggestions???

Since I like Tunica, I'd go. The Horseshoe is one of the nicest casinos in town. And if you would go, you wouldn't necessarily have to gamble at the Horseshoe. Tunica Roadhouse (also owned by the same parent company) is right next door. And also next to it is the Gold Strike which is an MGM property and also very nice.
Also if you like alcoholic drinks while playing, they are comped in Mississippi for active players. Smoking is also legal in the casino unlike Illinois.
The big drawback on Tunica is...not a lot to do other than gamble. But on all these junket trips, you tend to be stuck at the casino (except for the other 2 casinos right next to each other in this case).
VP is typical Ceasars/MGM property VP. Paytables used to be excellent at Roadhouse...now not so much. They still have a 9/6 JoB progressive for 100 pennies a hand though.
If you have any more specific questions, I'll try to answer them. I haven't actually stayed at Horseshoe, but I'm sure some others on the forum have.

i was there mid summer on a comp junket trip. my only visit, so i have a limited history. everything Vman stated i would agree with. three casinos within walking distance, but not much else to do. stayed at horseshoe, no complaints. staff was very nice, machines emptied my wallet, but that is not unusual these days. the airport is very, very small and i believe for casino use only. it reminded me of a brinks truck picking up money, except the planes are full of people, who get dropped off, give their money to the casino and fly out as another planeload comes in to do the same thing. i believe tunica is another victim of an overbuilt casino market. good luck.

They actually fly you into Tunica airport on these? I assumed it was Memphis (which still may be a dinky airport...never been) and they drove you ~40 minutes to Horseshoe... Planes flying into Tunica airport must be gamblers only. And hell, it's still 20 minutes from Horseshoe to Tunica airport according to google.
And yeah Tunica is overbuilt to LOL proportions. Really slow business during the week. You'll never really have to worry to get on most VP machines, even on the weekend. My home of St. Louis is a much more popular market for VP. Tunica patrons usually play the tables or slots more.

on the trip i took, it went direct to the small tunica airport. others who went on a more regular basis, stated this is how they normally went on charter trips. if one takes a commercial flight, it goes to memphis.
yes, it only takes 10 minutes or so to get to the casino from the airport. i did state that i thought the airport was for casino planes only. but, i am not certain about that. i think the fact that harrahs closed it very large property down, is indicative that the tunica gambling scene is also headed in the wrong direction. the city is located absolutely in the middle of nowhere.

Janette I also got an offer today in my email inbox and unfortunately for me the dates don't work; Feb 1 2015 and I can't get away from work then. I stayed at Horseshoe over this past Thanksgiving weekend and the hotel is nice. The casino bit me a little but I won earlier in the day at Hollywood so I still left up. If you are up for it then grabbing a rental car might be an option for you and because Memphis is only about 30 minutes away you can see Graceland if you are so inclined. There are several groups of casinos in Tunica and a rental car would allow you to get to them at your convenience. Good luck if you decide to go.

I'm not sure if I agree with the "victim of an overbuilt casino market" idea, I've been here from the very start of gaming in the Tunica area. The very first casino to open was called the Splash Casino and I remember having to stand outside in a line for as much as an hour and pay $10 just to get into the casino. When all the other casinos came along they were all almost packed at all times, a few poorly ran and out of the way casinos went down early but the others were booming. I've seen the rise and fall of the casino industry in Tunica and they are only a victim of their own greed. I kid you not, for years I can remember driving down and hoping I wouldn't have to wait to long just for a vp machine to open up, the slots were about the same. We used to walk the floor just looking at all the jackpots, Royal Flushes and slot jackpots were every where, I hit my share vp jackpots and slots also. The big crowds didn't start to thin until the jackpots started to slow up, even then the crowds were still present and playing but people started noticing the cost of playing was going up because the machines weren't hitting like they used to. Now I know some will want to point to the economy as the biggest problem but that's just not the case, the casinos were shedding players before then. I was a Seven Star player at Harrah's but I could get pretty much anything I wanted at any of the casinos because I played so much. It just got plain old fashioned to expensive to play the way I had played for so many years and the funny thing was that the pay tables hadn't even changed, I just wasn't hitting like I used to, no one I knew was. It just blows my mind to see how bad the casino industry in Tunica messed up but I also believe they could still salvage the place if they really wanted to, I just think they don't want to or they're just stupid.

ko king, i will defer to your knowledge of tunica. i was simply generalizing that there are too many casinos to support the number of players.you obviously have a better grasp on what happened in tunica. what you are describing, sounds a lot like AC. paytables change a little, but the payouts drop a lot.
