The Gambler
My girlfriend and went to see the movie "The Gambler ". The movie was ok but not worth the price for admission. Save yourself some money and wait for it to come on TV.

Thanks for the heads up on the movie, I was thinking about going to see it but now I'll pass. I did like the original with James Caan though.

I didn't know this was a remake. I'll have to look for the orginal (1974) version and compare.

Supposedly this is based on a semi-autobiographical, non-fiction account written by the subject himself.....if this is true, then that means the "gambler" himself perpetrated his debauched deeds sometime during the 1960s.......ergo, his gambling experience took place during a time period EXTREMELY different and divergent than what we are currently up against in this day and age......I have not seen the NEW version, and the older original version I only caught snippets of one time when it was on Cable during one of my visits to Northern California (Eureka to be exact) circa 2001-2002. I currently have no opinion on the quality of either version, but I will heed the advice of JIMDEUCES and avoid the new version until I can view it on cable relatively cheap and inexpensive.This leads to the NEXT question/topic: What is your favorite all-time movie (or TV show) that has Gambling figuring prominently within the framework of the film/show? Gambling in any of its forms: Poker, slots, Table games, Horse racing, etc. It could also be simply a movie or show about VEGAS & Reno (such as the old TV show "Vegas" starring Roberto Uricho) ..... it could be National Lampoon's "Vegas Vacation", or it could be the Scorcese classic "Casino".... it obviously could be a cult classic like the movie "Rounders", or it could be the 2012, short-lived HBO series about Horsey Racing, "Luck", starring Dustin Hoffman and the late Denis Farina (a.k.a. "detective Mike Torrello" from the late 1980s, Michael Mann TV show "Crime Story", which coincidentally also QUALIFIES since the series had GAMBLING as one of its central plot elements and the entire second season took place in LAs Vegas)!I'm anxious to read everyone's choices!My own choices include: "Rounders" (obviously due to my interest and love for real live Poker); "Casino" (since this hearkens back to the period in Vegas History which gave the city the reputation and color that still enlivens it, not to mention the fact that the movie itself was released in 1995, the point at which, in my opinion, the metropolis of Vegas soon reached its tipping point of going from a perfectly sized, perfectly situated and developed gambling/adult entertainment destination to the overdeveloped, sanitized, overwhelming assault on the senses that exists today);

Thanks for the review, the trailer during the TV commercials made the movie interesting, but based on your opinion, it seems to be one of those movies where the best parts are already shown on the trailer.
If I do watch a movie, it is usually at home anyways.

Not to squelch DaBurglar's effort but haven't we covered the "favorite gambling thing within the framework" of a movie or television show before?

Yeah favorite movie thread was a little over four months ago. It stuck in my mind because I randomly caught one of DaBurglar's favorite movies on TV. I never had heard of it before catching it on cable.

http://forum.videopoker.com/forum/forum ... p?TID=6384[/QUOTE]My apologies.....no wonder it seemed like such an easy segue! Sorry.....please forgive me......Hopefully this gives people a chance to build in the OTHER thread and add to it if they missed it the first time around.I think this also underscores just how "DEAD" the forum here has been as of late.....NOTHING really interesting or dynamic is happening or looming.......VERY much like the Gaming/Casino industry itself around the country, dont you think????

DaBurglar except for people posting winning video poker sessions and you talking about how bad things are; I concur.
