My OWN "80%" rule
I have no problem admitting the following: I usually finish DOWN, or "lose" about 80% of the time.....that is to say, 4 out of 5 of my video poker sessions over the last 3 years or so (almost all in AC) have seen me finish "down" from my original starting bankroll....Now, I usually do not LOSE a lot of money (usually in the range of 400-500 bucks) but in the past couple years I have had several sessions where I lost considerably more (like around 1200) simply due to horrendous hands and duds in the cards dealt......it has NOTHING to do with my Skill, which is as good as anyone here (or anyone who can READ a stinkin player's hand guide on what to hold and what to toss! it is actually misleading to call this "SKILL"....it is not skill. it is simply the ability to MEMORIZE and to remain alert, sober and press the correct buttons!) It also has nothing to do with my attitude or outlook, or what I was wearing or what I ate or what I believe in terms of karma, etc.I am thankful that I have tapered off my overall video poker play in Atlantic city in the past 18 months and have instead focused my energy and money on playing real live poker, which I have done fairly well at (not SPECTACULAR, but I am definitely "Ahead" over the past two years playing N/L Texas Holdem at several AC card rooms.) Now it is a DEFINITE fact and truth that real live poker requires true bonafide SKILL where as video poker is in fact, mostly LUCK.Why dont we have any other posters who want to share actually tell us what their personal success rate/ratio has been in Video Poker over the last 5-6 years......we now know mine, and we already know tedlark's.

About the same for me. 80% losers if not more. Average 500- but some in the 1200-1300- range. That unfortunately, seems to be about right for quarter players who hit no premium hands in a session of 8 hours or more. The sad part is every single session had an up point however small at some point and a few times an up point of 500- or more. So hard to quit especially if something goods hits when you first sit down to play. Not so hard to quit when you are playing catch up and near the end of your playing day.

Seriously, Why (or what does) Tedlark think is the reason that YOU are not enjoying HIS UNBELIEVABLE rate of success????

Since I hate politics in general, I don't think I will throw my hat into the political ring right now. Had enough years ago as a union steward and trying to do my job at the same time. Boy, that was tough. Anyway, good luck and good health to all.

Anyway, good luck and good health to all.I respect this, and frankly, this is what makes you such a likable person......I cancelled my AC trip this week due to weather so I am much closer to visiting Mohegan SUn, but the only trouble is, we have another BLIZZARD on the way this weekend and is going to clobber the region, so I doubt I will be going anywhere the next week or so except to bed!blahhh this is the worst winter in, gosh, forever! Honestly, this is the biggest reason I am even online sparring with Tedlark over some BS success rate that in all reallity, has NO bearing or influence on ANYONE's life, least of all mine! If not for this snowy winter, I'd be in AC right now having fun in a smoke filled card room instead of poking holes in Tedlark's posts.......BOO winter! BOO snow!hey Olds, what is your schedule for March for playing at Mohegan?

One of my co-workers in the steel mill I was employed at tried to get me to run for union steward about 15 years ago. He was always a big troublemaker and had constant battles with the other employees in our shop. When I turned him down I told him..."If I were a union steward, I would spend 80% of my time talking to you."
And yes, I also come out an overall loser at least 80% of the time, if not more.

Weather premitting, should be up at Mohegan most Sunday evenings in March, Monday through early pm, and probably 1 day midweek. Also most Friday evenings with the wife. Some of those are iffy though. Looks some of the AAC women's basketball tournament will be held up at Mohegan, so I hope I can attend some of those too.

I only hope the snow does not create major problems with the game being played or people getting to the game!I will keep in mind your Mohegan schedule, and when I nail down a day I can get to Mohegan, I will post it here and maybe we can finally meet.

And thanks for your honesty here about your realistic winning experience.........I wonder if Tedlark will ALSO berate or make fun of you for not being "as lucky" as he is....I hope other forum posters make a post here in this thread and relate what their own approximate rate of success or failure is in Video Poker.......

I usually experience success in the first hour of gambling. It's hanging around the second or even third that wipes me out. As a very low roller, I have belatedly adapted. I now bow out after the first hour. I order a nice drink, put away my players card and leave the building to enjoy a meal and explore the shops a bit. It gets me home in a winning frame of mind.
