My first royal

Post by pjmaui »

My story goes all the way back to 1991. but it is bizarre. I was living in So. Cal and would make trips to Vegas usually twice a month. On one of these trips I was at Nevada Landing in Jean, NV. playing one of the old "big bertha" $1.00 jacks or better poker machines. The machine gave my back to back 4 of a kinds, which is not really a big deal, but kind of cool. Two days later I am sitting at home and this frickin' machine is calling me, something in my head would not let it rest. On total impulse I call my live in girlfriend at work and tell her I have to go and do something and I will be back in the morning. Off to Nevada Landing I go, 3 1/2 hrs one way. I buy my 100.00 rack of silver, go straight to that machine. Fourth hand dealt to me I held the Ace of hearts. Caught the other four, cashed in $4,080.00 and went home. I moved to Vegas in 2006 and to this day I have caught 139 royals.

Thanks for sharing a good story! (even if it will be the first and only post)I started focusing only since last year, still have not gotten a Royal Flush at a live casino yet. I've gotten every other possible hand in JoB/DDB/Bonus Deluxe, no quad deuces on Deuces Wild yet.

Thank you for reply!
Currently my two most visited casinos are Fiesta Henderson and Green Valley Ranch, also in Henderson. I usually play the same four or five machines in each casino. Double double bonus single hand is my game of choice. On a typical visit it is very unusual for me to play on more than three different machines.

That is awesome, you have the access to play 10/6 DDB since you are a vegas local. I am wondering if the casino sets a restriction or monitor the amount of play on the amount you can play on those machines.

I see a ton of players on quarter 9-5 or 9-6 DDB but not many were crowding the 10-6 one on my lone visit to The Palms casino.

Good story. Can you guestimate appx how many hands you played to get 139 Royals. My math tells me it should be well over 5.5 million hands or nearly 700k hands a year since 2006. Wow....wish I could have hit even half that many playing 8m hands or more in the same time period.

I would have no clue as to how many hands I have played. About the only reference I have would be my profit/loss statement. I don't always use my players card but my P/L for 2014 shows coin in of 577,353

Well, playing on a quarter machine that would be will over 400k hands a year, so the average would have been in the range of 80 Royals or so in that time period. If all of that play was on dollar machines, those numbers would be beyond belief, but anything is possible in vp.

Great story pjmaui and keep the royals coming. I do not keep track of the total number of royals that I've hit over the years and the only one that sticks out in my mind are: in 2002 while playing a Triple Play Double Pay machine I caught a royal on the deal for 15K. All the many others are just memories.   Good luck to you.
