tips on hand pays
For 1250-3000 range which is by far the most common I do $20 for the slot attendant and 20 for the security guard. For the 4000 and above range I usually do 40 bucks for each casino employee so long as they are friendly. I am a regular at most places I go so I rarely get a rude attendant. The one time I did was at northern lights casino in walker, mn...hit 4 aces on $1 DDB and won a double up for a 1600 hand pay and the guy who paid me was a total jerk...signed the paper work, took my 16 Benjamin's and walked out....I've hit 6 jackpots of over 10k and for those I tipped $200 all around...I also have two casinos where I love the staff so much I send them a $1000 check for Christmas and ask the manager to split it amongst their night staff. To be honest, being generous to the hourly staff is one of my favorite parts of video poker/ casino trips...

If you play VP for fun and entertainment then tip away. If you make your living from gambling the advantage is too small to tip. Tips cut into your bottom line. Do casino staff tip you when you lose your bankroll?

Sorry to hear that about Northern Lights. I've never had any interactions with the slot floor people, but they do have a nice poker room and probably one of the best restaurants in town. Maybe you just got a guy on a bad day.

If you enjoy tipping, tip away. $40.00 in tips on a $1,250.00 hand pay is 3% of the handpay. I am also a generous tipper but I have only tipped the security officer once and I slipped it to him when he escorted me out to my car after they handed me a large amount of cash. Many casinos pool their tips and they then get divided evenly after shift end so you may not even know if the slot attendant you are tipping gets to keep the whole amount you tip them. Again, if being a generous tipper makes you happy then why change if it brings you enjoyment? Pay it forward...

Having never had a handpay on VP, I avidly read your comments. LOL. I did have a handpay on Diamond Lotto back for $1250. I tipped the guy a $20 and I thought that was just fine. LOL.

If you tip the bathroom attendant, people are going to start wondering what happened in there.

It always tip the attendants 1-3% of the jackpot, depending on how fast and friendly they are. They make a small hourly wage, so I am happy to help them out.

Possibly...but they definitely are under appreciated. Same goes for the people that clean the ashtrays/remove glasses on the sides of the machines. I always say thank you to them when they come by.

Non-executive casino floor employees do get minimum wage for the most part and rely on tips to supplement themselves. Sad reality is that it is a revolving door, if one does not want to perform at their position, there are hundreds of people that will be willing to take over the spot.
My local casino switched to plastic cups awhile back since glass cups were high maintenance.
From what I heard, dealers at the high limit tables stooped very low to get a position to get high amount of tip.
