Biggest mistake ever?

Post by ko king »

No doubt this was the biggest mistake I've ever made while playing. Went to a casino I don't play at often because I'm not a fan of the new style machines and hat's pretty much all they offer. I had been playing for about 3 hours of DDB, that's all I play unless the casino offers TDB which this casino didn't offer. I was doing pretty decent, hit quad aces twice and 4 or 5 other quads. I've played at this casino maybe 20 times over the years and I've never received a hand pay so I figured I due to light the place up sooner or later. Anyway I had caught the machine switching to Jacks or Better a couple of times, never had this happen before and I'm not sure what button I was hitting that caused this to happen. I would be playing along and notice that the game was no longer DDB but Jacks or Better, no big deal, I would just go back and change to my game. Had about 200 credits on the machines and finally hit quads aces w/kicker, kept wondering why the light for the hand pay didn't come on and sure enough somewhere along the line the game I was playing was Jacks or Better for 125 credits. Needless to say I was furious at myself for allowing that to happen, I'm still not sure how and when the switch takes place but for some reason it does, I've caught this more than once. I think I've got it narrowed down to when I select the game to play and then choose the denomination I push the deal button the game selection changes. Regardless of what I'm doing this never happened in all my 20 plus years of playing.

kk, that sucks! until i knew the absolute reason why the machine was switching between games, i would be hesitant to ever play those machines again.  the last time i played, a malfunctioning button, caused me to miss on quad 7's. not near the same payout as you lost, but it is tough enough to stretch a bankroll without having crappy machines messing up your results. just proves, the casinos really do not care about VP players.

Well you're right, it does suck and I'm not certain I can blame it all on myself. My guess is that you have played as much vp over the years as myself so you know the damage a malfunctioning button can cause, I don't think that's the case here. I think it has something to do with the game set-up on the new style machines because it's never been an issue for me. Like I said I had caught this happening more than once that day, it wasn't all me, there's a glitch in the system somewhere. I did call for a slot attendant and she got a machine tech and a casino rep to see if they could determine what happened, they said it was my fault. I somewhat agree but I still cashed out and left the casino more than likely to never return. I hope they noticed when I pulled my players card that it was a Seven* card.

curious.....when you say you were playing their "new style" VP machines, what exactly is this?    Are you talking server based style games?  Or what exactly.....?My biggest problem happens when I want to play SUPER FAST, when I am in th emood to just  deal & play at my highest speed in order to accumulate the maximum points and coin-in  to coincide with some promotion, or offer, or some other "Advantage" situation.....Certain style machines (for me) do NOT accomodate my style of play when going at the SUPER FAST pace.....the server based games at CET properties, for example, in AC  totally suck in terms of being able to go at MAX SPEED (compared with either the old Game King Table tops or upright machines)......both the "stickiness" of buttons, the metallic texture of the buttons, and the layout/functionality of the server style game buttons cause me serious problems, and I can easily make mistakes if not careful.......

Nothing to do with server based, many of the casinos in this area took out all of the older machines (which I prefer) and replaced them with newer machines. The new machines are horrible, you really have to slow your play down because of the crappy buttons. To make matters even worse so many of them have issues like sticky or non working buttons. I can feel when somebody hands me a cheap piece of crap tool when I'm working, the new machines are kind of like that, they just have the feel of a cheap tool.

This is the first time I've heard such a thing where a game can always switch to Jacks or Better. An easy way to distinguish JoB and DDB is the paytable size, more entries for DDB and the least amount for JoB. I play really slow when it comes to actual money play so that there are an absolute few amount of misplays.Normally if there are no credits in the balance, the IGT machine would switch around all the games that are available including keno and slots for a minute at a time.

I have played as much VP as anyone and never had this happen. My guess KK is you must have changed games without noticing. I really don't see how the machine could do it on its own

Switching games may inadvertently be happening if you accidentally push a "hold" button before pushing Deal/draw.

Recently, I was playing on a machine where I tried to use the touch screen to switch games, from DDB to DW.
The touch screen wasn't working, so the only way to switch games was to continually hit one of the "hold" buttons and scroll through every game on the screen in order to reach the DW logo. So, I was hitting the hold button about five times to get from one game to another.

Possibly, if you are not careful where the palm of your hand is (such as resting on the machine), you may have been accidentally hitting the hold button first.

Now keep in mind that I've played vp for well over 20 years now, played 2 games, DDB and a little TDB. During all those years catching a machine switching games has never been and issue, now all of the sudden I'm seeing it happen right before my very eyes. I haven't changed a thing in the way I've always played, push left card hold button to select game, push middle card hold button to select denomination, press deal button to play game, same as always. Now all of the sudden when I go thru the process I will notice the game I'm playing is Jacks or Better and have to go back and select my game. I understand the differences between the two games (J or B and DDB) but I never pay any attention to the pay Tables after I've looked to see if the game pays 9/6, once I see that I never look again because I know the complete list. I play fast and I concentrate on the cards in front of me, I have no reason to look at the pay table list while playing.................I do now.
