CASINO TRIES 100% PAYBACK

Post by TKO »

I saw this post on another forum.

Another casino tries the high payback business model

Since this is so rare, I have to make a mention now every time a casino decides to improve their returns to the player versus cutting them.

I found one this weekend and want to make a mention of it.

Yesterday I went to the Twin Arrows casino here in Arizona. http://www.twinarrows.com/ (It's along I-40 east of Flagstaff)

I don't make it there too often, it is about 175 miles from my home and if I want to drive that far I might as well drive 220 miles to Laughlin instead, plus there are a lot of casinos much closer to me.

That however has been this casino's problem. Two years ago they built this nice large casino/resort with high expectations. I went opening weekend then, the casino was nice, had all the new games, and I even won there. However I expected it to be busy then and it wasn't. I guess it never is very busy and they have been losing money ever since it opened. This casino is as large and as nice as the ones near Phoenix and larger than most of the Laughlin casinos, but that makes it expensive to run and still doesn't bring in enough people.

Anyway, the reason I went is because they are advertising that they have some great paybacks now. Their video poker is advertised at above 100% (just on the 25 cent games for now). They had some of the best paytables I have ever played, even better than what I found in Reno. All non-progressive games pay royals at $1199 vs the usual $1000 (like 9/6 JOB or 8/5 BP), and all straight flushes pay 275 credits at max bet vs the usual 250. They even had 9/6 double double bonus with the extra pay for the SF, and a progressive royal over $3200.

The other thing they have is their dollar reel slot games are set above 98% payback. This isn't the bank of machines where it says "up to 98%" and you don't know which machine is the one. This had each of the specific machines with signs on them saying "over 98% payback" so you know you are playing a high payback machine.
It wasn't the entire casino, but there was about 20 of these spread around, and they had at least two of every type of popular dollar game.
While I didn't win on these overall, it was amazing how long I could play on one with just a $20 bill.

Anyway, I hope this new strategy works to improve their business. It could be a good model for other casinos to follow.

They just upped their paybacks very recently, and noticed billboards on the highway there advertising it- one even in front of another competing casino.

Players should report this finding to VPFree, the Twin Arrows page shows that there is nothing good in terms of VP. If they are banking on that, they are banking that most of the players will not play out long term to get the game's theoretical return.
They even had 9/6 double double bonus with the extra pay for the SF, and a progressive royal over $3200.
For 50 cent denomination? Pretty decent. It is way too good for quarter denomination.

The latest issue of Arizona Gaming Guide has a nice article about has a nice article about the Twin Arrows resort. Nothing on VP, however. Haven't been there but look forward to visiting it at some point. It is, as mentioned, a little out of the way.

If you want it to last...I probably wouldn't. VPFree2 people will help to suck it dry to be honest. But since the casino's website is clearly advertising it too, what the hell. And for awhile I swore AZ was a 100% max state, but was corrected of that within the last year, with the 10/6 DDB games at Fort McDowell.

Remember that the 10/6 DDB at the Fort has the straight flush reduced from 50 to 40. Ironically, the wife and I played a little there after bingo this weekend and she hit two straight flushes, first time that has ever happened during one session and an abbreviated one at that.

The wife and I went on a cross country road trip over Christmas Break, along I40 (From CA to TN) and we saw the Twin Arrows casino..it's HUGE! but there weren't many cars there (this was on 1/1/15) when we passed by...good concept..but WAAAAAAY out in the middle of ABSOLUTE NOWHERE (Literally on I40, it's a straight 60 miles before ANYTHING even resembling civilization comes into view in EITHER DIRECTION)

I have not been involved with VPFree for long, but the community on Yahoo! groups (uses the old bulletin board style compared to forums that has been around for a while) definitely has no newbies asking silly questions. Not too long ago, there was a VPFree update on the Gold Coast (Las Vegas) with 10/7 $5 DB triple play in the high limit room, I heard it got hammered immediately and got shut off.

I've checked out the website and I see they are promoting it as well. The Palms casino website also mentions 100% payback games on their slot page, but it is not as easily as noticeable. According to Bob, those 100% payback machines are heavily monitored.

Probably there are enough lurkers on these forums to check out what the casino has to offer.

Seems like on the update/comment page on VPFree, the DDB has been downgraded to 9/6, so no longer the 50/10/6 100.07% or 40/10/6 99.96% type.

Someone did report the $5 3 play 10/7 DB on the vpFREE forum, but it turned out that it wasn't the standard 100.17% paytable since the quads were shorted. The original poster didn't notice this.

DDB was 10/6 Sunday. We both played the machines. This was single line, 0.25. We both hit a number of full houses and know what we were paid. I have no clue what VPfree is talking about.
