A terrible 5 day video poker trip
Usually I'll hit a Royal or at least a number of 4 of a kinds-but on my last trip (5 days of playing double double bonus) I couldn't hit anything. I thought I used good strategy. People around me were saying the machines were "tight" but I thought that can't happen in video poker but it sure seemed like no one was hitting....What was it? Maybe just a bad luck trip!

daliliah I feel your pain! I doht know where u were playing but if it was vegas of AC the machines are all random so there is no tight or loose. I dont know what paytables you were playing, thats where the casinos squeeze u tighter. The not getting quads is just the way the RNG was lining up for you (bad luck is what I call it) However you are spoiled (-: if you get a Royal Every 5 day trip!!!

It is merely coincidence. 5 days of steady playing is a long time to go without even a quad, but it does happen on rare occasions. Next time you might go 5 days and hit a jackpot each day. I once went on a 3 day Vegas trip and hit nothing remarkable. The next time I was in Laughlin and before I even put my stuff in my room I had four 10's dealt to me on a $5 machine. Great way to start a trip, and the quads kept coming, including aces twice. So you never know. But there is no way to make machine tight or loose. As Boops said, the paytable is the only way the casino can tighten up on you if it is a regulated casino.

Lady luck can be fickle! My last trip to LV was my worst! and my wife`s best! We played a lot side by side, same game, same paytable. I struggled to get even a low pair to work with while she kept hitting flushes, full houses, 4 of a kind. I finally had to play away from her! No it didn`t change my luck but at least I didn`t
have to listen to her machine rack up all the credits while mine barely burped!!

One night at the Peppermill in Reno I hit Quad Aces 5 times in less that two hours on DBP - almost made me change over to DDBP - hoping to get a kicker with them. Great Night!!

Daliliah - I can relate to that. We usually stay in Vegas 4 nights twice a year. The previous two trips were horrendous; I never hit a thing and I was excited to get a pair. You're prettry sure you're playing the wrong game or that you've suddenly forgotten how to play. I'm spoiled too because previously I almost always hit a Royal; you expect to win, right? This last trip two weeks ago was succesful. I hit a royal on a .25 DDB triple play machine, then it dealt me 3 threes and I hit one with the kicker. I moved to the machine next to me and hit a Royal. I actually came home ahead after 5 days of gambling. Your next trip will better!! Good luck.

I didn't think rng were used in video poker - everything I've read says it's just the luck of the draw? Have I missed something?

this may be way off but I always hear that because AC considers video poker a slot machine that the payoff is really controlled like a slot machine. There have been articles and nobody really has the answer. If it is so random why do many peole say the same thing. I also believe that there are days and times that the machines are turned down. When it gets to be say 10am there seems to be more action and suddenly the machines start paying off? I have noticed this in Caesars AC? Anyone think this is interesting? Thanks EP
