Newest/Oldest First

Post by MikeA »

WB,

Can you use "cookies" to "remember" the setting used last when selecting whether to show the Newest or Oldest post first?

You want the oldest first?

I'm not sure that capability to remember the newest/oldest is built in to the forum software and unfortunately it's not the easiest thing to modify. It will always default to the newest first.

It will always default to the newest first.Mine ALWAYS starts off with "oldest" first.  I have to change it to "newest first" every time I log in.I've fought this battle (jokingly speaking of course) on other forums that present by default the "Oldest first".  That's okay when you are playing catch up, but when you are monitoring as most of us here do, it sure would be nice to see the "first unread" in each topic instead of having to hunt for it.  Just seeing the "newest first" would be better, especially in the longer topics. But, it's only one "click" each time you log in to get the sequence you need (except for finding the first unread message.)

Mine always starts with the newest ones at the top, as it should.  Maybe it's a user setting but I don't see it in the settings area.  Let me figure this out for you.Edit: I can't find a setting anywhere.Does it appear oldest first for anyone else here?

I prefer the setup as it is(oldest first). This keeps the messages in a linear fashion. When you go with the newest first, you have to backtrack to figure out what that person is responding to.

Okay, I misread.  I didn't realize you were talking about the posts within a topic.  I was looking to sort the topics by date on the main page, which is newest first. No, I don't think there is a way for the newest messages to sort by newest-top by default.

As long as you don't logout from the site, i think it will retain your preference for newest post first. You're talking about the newest post under Active Topics, right?

No, he's not talking about the list of topics.  That's what I thought as well at
first.

He is talking about within a topic having the newest post at the
top.
