OK Casinos-Choctaw/Downstream

Post by Lucky Larry »

Trip to Missouri for family. On our trips up and back we stay at Native American casinos in Choctaw (Durant,OK) and Downstream (Quapaw, OK). Both casinos are really nice and are experiencing growth - new towers and facilities. Their VP is however very different.

Choctaw - First night - WOW factor!
The VP is limited to a few machines wrapped on two sides of the High Limit area.   4 All Stars, a few single hand, Wheel on one side and an 18 machine Progressive bank that wasn't operating last trip.

The Prog. pay tables are "WOW" . The Progressive bank has multi-demom 25¢-$1. The 25¢ Prog offers 98% return options (JOB, DW, BONUS, AND DDB). The WOW factor is that all 18 offer 50¢-$1 Prog. with options of NSUD (99.7%), 9/6 JOB, 8/5 Bonus, and 9/6 DDB.

The first night we played for the 50¢ progressive which was over $2,900. About two hours into play the lady down from us hit the RF. We continued playing until early morning with no big hits but enjoyable hands for hours. I had forgotten how much I missed NSUD.

Downstream - three nights. The Downstream VP is decent with lots of machines in the 97-98% return and many options. Unfortunately, they offer no multiple hand machines (nothing over 10 hands). Also they recently eliminated cash back on VP which was creating quite a bad feeling amongst the local serious VP players.

The first night I caught two rare AWAK TDB 5¢ and two dealt quads on DDB. Went up for the night. Sweet C played down for the night.

Second night we started with a wonderful concert by Tommy James and the Shondells. Talk about reliving the 60's. After the concert we played and my play was again up and down like the night before. Went down early but then caught a dealt quad on DDB, Aces, and DRF on 10 hands but no consistent hands to keep up for the night. Sweet C caught Aces on $1 for a great hit.

Third night -my play was once again up and down - caught 4RF but not joy. Meanwhile, Sweet C playing single hand was dealt AWAK on 25¢ for the big hit of the night. Results for the three night play was me being down all three night's bank roll. Sweet C was up as a result of her AWAKS hit. Talking to one of the hosts about the loss of cash back and credit for comping the rooms we were offered meals at the Red Oak steak house and breakfast buffets the next morning. We had an enjoyable meal. The next morning I went to the buffet and ate breakfast and then treated the next three paying customers an anonymous free breakfast to kill off the host's breakfast comp.

Choctaw - fifth night. Headed back home and played at Choctaw again. Played exclusively 50¢ and $1 DW Progressive which was now over $5,600. Sweet C caught the fourth deuce on a 3 deuce hold on 50¢. That was the hit of the night and I ended up down again but enjoyed several long session on NSUD -including one three hour run of NSUD play never up of down more than $100. Finally, I hit the loss of timing and again ended the trip down again.

Glad to get home after 5 nights of playing. Disappointed we never saw a RF which had always happened at Downstream in the past but loved the NSUD play at Choctaw.

Nice report Double L, it sounds like you two had a blast. I, obvioously, appreciate AWAK just as much as a royal on TDB so those two hands are always nice to see when they pop up. Congrats to Sweet C on her dealt AWAK.

Considering how big Choctaw is I'm surprised that the VP area was that small. I was aware of the good paytables via VPFree2, but they could probably downgrade and still make a lot of money.

Missouri does seems to have decent share of video poker. If you were able to play TDB for nickels and get AWAK twice, I would not have remorse of not hitting a royal. Thanks for sharing your story!
