your machine
on another thread, the subject of someone considering a VP machine as 'theirs' came up. i was surprised that others chimed in that they also were attached to a particular machine. i have never felt that way. i guess i could understand if a particular machine had a comfortable seat or the lighting was perfect, but other than that, i do not comprehend. i remember most of the machines i have had big wins on, but never related that to the machine, rather just sitting at the right place at the right time. what is even more interesting to me, is that some who like a particular machine, are advocates for 'perfect' play, the RNG is random and the machines have no memory. do these same folks also wear a lucky shirt?

It is insulting and just plain ridiculous.......

notes1 you are a non-believer who should know better....
My machine was Serial # 420117659. The only 3/5 play machine at the Isle LC that had not had its chip changed when all the others had been changed to lower pay tables. My machine which I followed to 4 different locations in the casino was the only full pay (9/6 JOB; 8/5 Bonus and NSUD. 9/6 DDB) machine on the floor. I babied My machine, learned her personality, (like when her fan didn't cool enough and her hands started playing too slow - it was time for a break) brought her $ gifts and spent hours with her talking sweet things, even had her taken "off line" when I left to go eat with my other significant "sweet thing" so she could take a break too. Over a five year period in return she often gave me back love and wonderful gifts - 3 dealt multi-hand RF, dealt Aces on the first hand of Super Aces and numerous other RF and big hits. My machine Alas, they finally found her and I miss her.
Oh yeah and I wear the same two "Lucky" shirts, the same "Lucky" pair of underwear, the same "Lucky" socks .....thats why I'm lucky....
This past trip to Coushatta I was playing an end 100 play machine. A man came up and played next to me. When I went to the RR and to cash out several tickets, I told Sweet C and left my card in and jacket on the chair. After about 10 minutes the man commented to Sweet C that I had vacated "his machine" since I didn't have any money in it. He was really upset when she put in $5 and said I was coming back. When I returned he then asked if he could have his machine when I left. He later told me he had been dealt Aces on the machine and he considered it his lucky machine. Since I wasn't hitting much I offered him "his machine".

when facing a row of VP machines, that all have the same paytables and other than comfort, if you are a true believer, it should not matter what machine you play. if one believes the RNG is random, casino integrity is impeccable, the regulators are protecting you and playing the 'perfect' card is what really matters, what difference does any machine make? now, i would fully expect that there will, be some true believers who will not admit they have a machine they call 'theirs'. some will argue 'their' machine has a better paytable, while the machine right next to them has the same payout, but they will not play it. i have no problem if someone has a favorite machine, but you cannot be a true believer at the same time.

I think throwing in the serial number took the cake on that one Larry! Lol
As for me, as long as i can get on a machine with the paytable i want, I'm good. I haven't played enough slash been observant enough to notice marked differences in results between individual machines. On one of the few machines i can easily remember giving me a huge hit, a dealt royal at flamingo on multiline pennies, wasn't particularly hot outside of that one hit.

Great post LL! LOL
I must have missed the thread with all these posters who advocate perfect play saying a machine is "theirs"?
Myself, and I think most other posters that advocate perfect play would only say a machine is "theirs" if it was a situation like LL brought up, where it was the only full pay machine on the floor, or maybe on a high progressive. I'm guessing the majority of these posters would probably say they only want the best pay table.

larry has always been the least hypocritical of the denizens of this site......seriously, you know where you stand with LL and his partner sweet c ...... I just wish some of his luck would somehow drift my way I think I've just been called a hypocrite by DB --- or at least more hypocritical than LL. I have no idea why. (actually, I'm just messing gently with DB for his hyperbole. His comment didn't bother me at all.)Responding to Notes1 comment about all machines with identical pay schedules being equivalent, I strongly disagree. Some machines have sharper images on the screens. Some have seats which are more comfortable than the others. Some have more secure "between the machines" areas which all better storage than do end machines. The speed of the machine could be different. The sound volume could be different. You could be a little closer/further from the entertainment "noise". You could be a little closer/further from traffic isles, or perhaps an obnoxious "Wheel of Fortune" machine. Some are closer/further from a particular player you wish to avoid. Some are more "side by side" in case you and your partner want to play together.Sometimes you may find mistakes. There was a 9/7 DB machine years ago in Vegas that actually paid at 10/7. In my "Million Dollar Video Poker" autobiography I recount how there were video poker machines at the MGM Grand that were granting slot club points at the slot machine rate rather than the video poker. That mistake ended up giving me an extra $75,000 and two PT Cruisers over a couple of months. There is another mistake I'm playing today that I'll probably write about later. There are a LOT of things to consider more than just game and pay scheduleBob

must be a reading problem cause by all the heat in nevada. in BOTH my posts, i specifically mentioned comfort as a possible reason to have a favorite machine. and, in my original post, i mentioned lighting. i'll forgive your error in advance. so, have you ever played a machine, just because you thought it was lucky?

I have the feeling Bob would play a machine in a torture dungeon if it payed over 100%, but the comps probably wouldn't be that good (just kidding). As for me, my perfect video poker machine would be a brand new machine all alone in a beautifully decorated room, with great 60s music playing and half naked playboy bunnies for helpers.
