Back from Reno

Post by ko king »

Just got back last night. This makes my third trip to Nevada, Laughlin, Vegas and Reno. All three trips have been equally bad and rate as the most horrible vp experiences I've had in my entire lifetime. Maybe Nevada vp and I don't like each other, didn't like my wife either, she may have possibly done worse than me. I spent an entire week of playing $1 and $2 DDB and TDB. Every day was a repeat of the day before and I mean a repeat, I swear it seemed like I was playing the same exact hands over and over again. I honestly think I could have spent a month there and never hit anything.

It's too bad that you and your wife had a bad trip video poker wise and according to some; Nevada casinos are supposed to be some of the most player friendly in terms of video poker. Right now my encouragement to you regarding future video poker outings would seem sort of hollow but, better luck next time to you and your wife ko.

I think we tried every casino with the majority of our play given to Harrah's because that's where we stayed. I swear on a stack of bibles that while we were playing I only saw 1 hand pay the entire time we were there. People were playing it's just nobody was getting the premium hands, finally the night before we left I saw a lady hit a Royal. As for myself I played long and hard mixing my play between DDB and TDB at max play always, hit a handful of small quads and only caught quad 2's once the entire trip. We did have some success at the EL Dorado, that's where I caught the quad 2's, walked out of there a few hundred up. We purchased an RTC bus pass and made out way down to Peppermill and Atlantis, despite having very good pay tables we were both destroyed there, I might have caught a couple of full houses. Like I said all three of my Nevada trips have been the same, crazy bad vp. Now as for Reno in general, I guess it was okay, tons of homeless people and a lot of construction/repairing going on. The river was also very low which made it appear much more of an eyesore that it really is, we were told that it is much nicer when Tahoe has some water to share. Like Ted mentioned, Reno is said to be player friendly when it comes to vp but the machines like always were tight as a drum for me. My play of corse in Nevada has been limited to around a total of 15 days over a 2 year period but all 15 days were horrible vp experiences. Every time I go to Nevada it makes me appreciate what I have in this area a little more as far as vp goes.

So much hope and good will crushed like a tin can. And the whole week felt like Groundhog Day. Double destruction at that. What a nightmare. A quad a day, with only two of them premium, is just not cutting it. I'd say unacceptable, but you're there to play so you have no choice but to accept it.

Wow....this is very discouraging......I am extremely sorry Ko King.      When Ted referred to "Some people" believing Nevada video poker to be the best possible  in today's economy, he no doubt was referring to me since I am on record as stating that Nevada video poker is superior in all ways to AC video poker.I do not want to reopen your wounds but obviously, the more SPECIFICS you can offer as to your efforts and experiences in this debacle, the more support and encouragement (or even plain old sympathy) we can offer!Again I am sorry and surprised at this extended Nevada Video Poker debacle!

WOW. You don't mention how many hours/day you devoted to gambling. But, if you were there for a whole week, and you played $1, $2 games, that is a big bankroll!! One of the problems is playing DDB and TDB, which are high variance games. Unless one gets lucky and hits a big hand fairly quickly, those two games whittle down your bankroll quite quickly when playing $5-$10/spin.

What is always interesting to me is how I often have better luck playing bad paytables . . . I've played at both Golden Gate (Downtown Vegas), as well as the Cosmopolitan on the Strip, and nearly always walk away from VP a winner. It makes no sense.

I have only been to Vegas 5x in the last 12 years. My 1st was a break even after all expenses, 2nd trip I came back with about 4K after expenses and my last 3 were dead. With the latest coming last year and it was a disaster of epic fails. Mostly at Caesars played the same game $1,$2 single line DDB and TDB and not one hand pay in 5 days. It was like you say... I felt like I could have played 1 million hands and not got a quad. It was ruthless. I could go back an look at my records for exact numbers but I'd rather not relive it. I will just say they ate about $800 in room charges when I left without blinking.

My $2 denomination play got cut short because of how badly I started so the majority of play was at the $1 level. To answer your question about the bankroll, yes it WAS large. I can't complain about the pay tables, most of the places I played were pretty decent.
