Could it be...a winning trip?
Went to the Taj for this past weekend. Checking in Saturday and leaving Monday. Saturday we played DDB, and my husband got a Royal! I had 4 or 5 1 card draw chances at it but nope! We both got quite a few 4oak's. Played from 11:30 till about 10Pm with just an hour stop for a bite in the Presidents club (or whatever its called now!). Went to bed up 500. Sunday played all day till around 3:30, still up a few hundred. They were giving away cd players or 40 bucks. We took the bucks more out of laziness than not needing another cd player! Went to the room and watched Live Free and Die Hard -we loved it! Oh we watched Oceans 13 the night before. Very entertaining. After eating went to pick up our Spinners tickets. Had a few minutes to play before the show and there were no good vp machines available where we were so we decided to throw a few bucks in quarter Wheel of Fortune-we never play slots. I hit for 2500 quarters and then a spin for the 1000 quarters. My hubby hit for 400 quarters 2x and we left with all of it to go to the show! The show was great and came with a free drink coupon. After the show we decided to play some dollar slots since we were so lucky on the WOF. I hit for 300 and hubby 200! WOOHOO! Played some more VP and off to bed up 600. Watched The Hills Have Eyes II-gory but we like that kind of stuff I am embarrassed to admit to you Sunday we got up vowing to only lose our winnings and to go home with our original stake. Played some VP in the lobby Smoking Area. Nothing good. OH they have these machines called ace on the draw. For 6 credits every hand you will get at least one ace! They had a progresive meter with the 4 aces W/O the kicker at 500 bucks! Sounds great right? Couldnt ht a 4oak and no aces either even though i got 3 of them on the deal 3 times. So we went to the Nickel Oasis-stupid name as it has a bunch of quarter games too! Well hubby hit aces with the kicker and plain aces 2x and I also got aces with the kicker! We went home up 800 bucks! SO HAPPY! A word about my search for a Royal -I swear the machines were taunting me. I got 4 to the Royal 5 times (didnt fill it) and every time I held 3 to the royal I got one of the cards, even hubby says its not my imagination!. I played only around 60 bucks on Joker poker this weekend (because they changed the multi game machines in the Nickel Oasis and they dont have it as a choice. Why not???) Anyway Im playing JW and I hold QJK of clubs--Royal flush! OH NO only 500 credits!! S> O> B>! So these new multigame machines I was talking about have a lot of choices and u can play up to 10 credits...but.... the Royal is now 1500 coins for a 5 coin game!! What the...!!!Didnt even notice at first. Anyway, thats my winning story for a change-I havent posted my last few trips as it was too depressing to have to recount!! Happy Gambling To ALL! And thanks for reading!

Congrats Boops; I remember you being a big DDB fan, too bad you had no luck there but overall it sounds like you had a blast. Maybe you're on a hot streak

You do have to be careful on those low denomination machines. Many of them do require 10 or even 20 credits to get the 800:1 bonus for the RF. I did find one Sunday down in Oklahoma that went the other way though. It was a $.01, $.02 or $.05 100-hand Multigame 100-coin machine. One of the games was DB (9/6/4 at around 96.5% ER <sigh>) but since the quarter machines had the same pay table, I though I might as well lose nickels instead of quarters. I looked at the pay tables and was surprised to see that the 800:1 bonus for RF was all the way down to the 5-coin column! Kinda funny, in about 3 hours of play, I was up $50 on that machine. Set it to play nickel denomination, 5-coin/ONE-HAND. During the 3 hours, I hit quad Kings 4 different times, quad deuces twice, quad 8's once and quad Aces once. This run of quads was quite different than the dry spell I had at the end of my trip to Vegas last week. I seemed not to be able to beg, borrow or steal quads of any kind the last couple of days.

DDB is still an exciting game even playing one line! I also like JW but that can get expensive if you dont hit a straight flush-which sometimes is hard to do!

Boops - I've been getting into JW lately too. Last month at Harrahs Joliet, IL I got5 of a kind on 2 lines for an 8,000 coin payoff. I swtched games to TDB and got 4 aces with a kicker an hour later. Good Luc, Tedlark

Tedlark JW is my favorite but its frustrating when you get 5 or 6 hands in a row wth nothing to hold. I firmly believe 5 of a kind is easier than a Royal-Im sure someone out there can tell us the probabilities-Shadowman? Webman?
More good luck to you!

50K probability is .009%RF Natural probability is .002%Looked at another wayRoyal should occur once every 41,214 hands50K should occur once every 10,713 handsThe ratio of 4000 for the NRF and 1000 for 50K is pretty much in line with probabilities.

It's no contest, barb. 5oak comes up about every 11,000 hands on ACJW. For most royal based games, the top prize royal comes about every 40-45,000 hands.
