What would you do with $1,000 in free pay?

What would you do with $1,000 in free pay?

Post by FloridaPhil »

The Hard Rocks have been having a lot of drawings lately.   I guess the summer is slow and they want to bring people in.   Next Friday's offer is 1000 players will win $1,000 in free play.  I've been thinking about what I would do if I won $1,000 in free play.  I'm thinking I would go to my favorite $5 machines and play it all out.  What would you do?

Phil it's funny you bring this up, I won $500 in a slot tournament this past Wednesday. Here is what I did. I played all of it thru 9/6 VP  JOB10 nickels at a time. I also  had $40 on may card so a total of $540, when done I have $490 in cash. I then put $400 in my pocket, played on the $90 and when it was gone I left.

Not a bad idea at all.  You played a low variance almost 100% game with a lot of hands which converted most of your free play into cash.  You could have been dealt a royal and that would have been  sweet...  $1,000 in free play at max coins $5 is only 40 hands.  I guess I consider free play as the casino's money and normally use it to take big gambles I wouldn't do with my own money.  Probably not the best use of my free play.

The issue I have with this approach is that it is usually not really "free play". It is earned through previous play.

I treat "free play" the same as if I had put cash into the machine, i.e., I play exactly the same.

If I won $1,000.00 in free play I would find the highest pay 3 hand deuces wild and play at the $1.00 level. If I hit something nice I would play the freeplay all the way down to zero and if I were a few bucks up, say $150.00 - $300.00 ahead I.d play the free play down to $250.00 and switch to .25 denomination and play it out.

With strategies like "Cheap" and "Pot Shot", you need bank roll. Find a good Jacks or Better or Bonus Poker pay table, then play it one penny at a time. If you win you won't win much, and if you lose it'll be miniscule. You'll end up with at least $925, and you certainly could use it.

I'd play a VP machine in the high limit room.

Two years ago, won $2500 in free play in a drawing at a locals casino in Vegas. At that time, there was a bank of $2 Double Bonus Deuces Wild machines in the high limit room. The Progressive jackpot on the bank of four machines was sky high: $12845 (the jackpot on the Royal starts at $10K, and seldom gets much above $11K). It was amazing that none of the four machines were in use. I committed to playing the entire $2500 in free play on that bank of four. Whoa. Third spin in on the first machine, I am DEALT the royal. I took a check for $12800. Then, I scampered off to the regular single line $1 Deuces Bonus machine to play the remaining $2470 of my free play.

In my opinion, any time you get a huge amount of free play like $1000 or up, head to the high limit room and play your favorite VP game at a higher denomination than you would normally play. You might get lucky.

Play it out on a dollar machine cashing out all decent hands hit then head for the craps table which I have wanted to do for a long time now. So far, I have been waiting since last October for that W-2G so I could head over there.
