Cecil the LION

In another thread, it was mentioned that the death of the majestic, wondrous creature known as "Cecil the Lion" was a sad, tragic event, but it was mentioned in such a way not to specifically decry the foul, heinous act of killing this animal but instead to make a point about the hypocrisy of Liberals who decry killing animals but support ABORTION.I agree that the absurd hypocrisy of liberals is pathetic and that it is awful that millions of innocent unborn children are murdered every year for no good reason, and that supporting  such a policy is wrong while simultaneously protesting the illegal killing of a single solitary creature......but that entire argument does not (nor should it) diminish the fact that Cecil the Lion's death was AWFUL, WRONG and the perpetrator (an American DENTIST of all things)  deserves to be handed over to the country (zimbabwe I believe) in which the crime took place.Here is what is wrong with this picture and WHY many people in MANY nations around the world absolutely HATE Americans and what we claim to stand for and believe in (and thus, why we need to CHANGE our ways and at least TRY to rehab our image and character in the world.)This dentist paid $50,000 (plus untold additional costs and expenses related to the endeavor)  to hunt and KILL Cecil.....of course, at the time, he did not KNOW Cecil was a well known "celebrity" amongst local wildlife enthusiasts and experts, nor did he know Cecil was being tracked and studied and monitored using a GPS collar & chip.But it was STILL Illegal to hunt and poach this protected species, but that did not matter to "Mr. American Dentist"....nope, the most important thing to him was GETTING THE KILL, being able to hang on his wall a head of a Male Lion.     And he HAD to do it with a CROSSBOW AND ARROW (or "bolt"), in order to "prove" his manhood and prowess as a skilled hunter (never mind that he is a DENTIST and some would argue, his prowess at cleaning and caring for Human's teeth is the most important thing here!)    He seemed to forget that the main issue with using a CrossBow and Arrow to try and kill an animal the size of a LION is that a hunter must be EXTREMELY proficient with the weapon in order to both NOT put himself and his party in danger by merely wounding the animal, but also in order to minimize the suffering of the LION he needs to be FLAWLESS in his placement of the single arrow shot he will get when the lion is within his range.   BUT THE REAL REASON he used the Bow instead of a gun:    Because he knew, as did his hunting "guide", and the owner of the land on which the illegal hunt was paid to take place, that using a GUN would possibly ALERT the patrolling rangers whose job it is to stop poachers of endangered wildlife!!        This shows the guy KNEW without doubt he was breaking the law, but again, it did not matter, all that mattered was his selfish need for a "trophy".He failed on all fronts:   He did in fact "merely wound" Poor Cecil, and subsequently had to track the bleeding, suffering beast for over 40 hours (FORTY HOURS!!!) as Cecil tried to get away and find a nice quiet spot to peacefully die on his own.....but no, MR American Dentist just HAD to have his trophy, so when he finally caught up with Cecil he (mercifully?) blasted him with a gun borrowed from someone else......of course, by this time, the Dentist and his party are scared lest all the blood and commotion their hunt stirred up lead them to being caught by the authorities......and then the roof fell in on their nefarious plot:   They discovered too late CECIL was outfitted with his tracking collar and chip, so, rather than simply admit they had gone too far and stop this insanity and simply turn themselves in to face the music, what did they do?    They sought to destroy and hide the evidence, by dismembering Cecil's entire body and destroying the GPS Collar and  Chip and a few other things which could have identified Cecil to anyone who found him......but here they failed too (not only is the arrogance of this American Idiot breathtaking, but his stupidity is as well.)To top everything off, the Dentist NOW is hiding like a total coward, because, like all pampered entitled Americans, he fears facing "justice" in a country like Zimbabwe, where PRISON actually means PRISON, not some sojourn in a club MED.    Seriously, what kind of character does this guy possess when he is all too willing to kill innocent wildlife (paying $50K no less in some far off land), but when he is caught and tripped up literally by his own stupidity, he runs and hides like the true coward he is rather than face the music.....indicentally, think of the additional cost to society he is now inflicting by forcing the state, local and federal law enforcement of at least two countries to focus on apprehending and prosecuting him!!!!!   Talk about selfish, worthless drains on society!The truly sad thing here is this:   He might have been a GREAT dentist for all I know......maybe he performed free cleanings for all the Ghetto children in Northern Minnesota....I dont know:   But all that is meaningless now, all because he could not quell this "need" inside him to stalk and kill innocent, comparatively HELPLESS creatures in their natural habitat .... why he could not be satisfied killing Black bears (there are an ABUNDANCE of them in that part of the country) in his own backyard instead of PAYING large sums of money to go half way around the world and murder a majestic, truly exceptional creature like Cecil, I will never understand.....and that, folks, is WHY a lot of people in the world cannot stand Americans.

Da, this is probably your best post ever! That sir was spot on. I believe he knew exactly what he was doing was completely illegal but he did not care. I further think they should extradite the bat rastard today.

didn't bother to read entire post. i'll just say this. if one is hunting for food, i have no problem. but, hunting for sport, especially the way it was done with this dentist guy, is crap. you can bet his dental practice will not be worth anything now.

The Great White Hunter's dental office has been shuttered since the news broke. Folks are gathering to protest and leave stuffed animals outside his door. It's also been reported that he killed a bear illegally in neighboring Wisconsin and had to settle a sexual harassment claim brought by a former hygienist. Apparently however he will make himself available to the US Fish and Wildlife Service which is also investigating. Basically he's been put in the 21st Century version of the stocks.
