Blown Opportunity

Post by FAA »

I was leaving the casino after a typical small win, low roller JOB day, up $24. It had been a fun couple of hours and I was feeling energized. I passed a machine and had an itch to play just five dollars more. Maybe I could catch a cheap quad for nineteen dollars. As I sat down I noticed a quad sevens for thirty one dollar hit still appearing. The player had followed my routine of cashing out after a quad. I had considered such machines radioactive, but the discussion here has diminished my hysteria. And hey, a mere five dollars after all. It got down to $2.50. Reluctantly I went from two and three to the dreaded one coin bet, looking for my five dollars back on a full house. JK clubs. Redraw yielded TQA clubs for a Royal Flush. I cashed out a whopping $65.  I certainly never expected a second 2015 RF with my limited amount of play and am officially over royaled for the year. If only I took full advantage of my forty thousand to one fate this time, as I did in January. In all fairness, I was supposed to be on my way back home at the time and lingered for no good reason other than to scratch an itch. It was a most mixed blessing.

Thanks for sharing a honest story. Every six royal flushes you get playing the cheap approach, just one of them will be a max coin one. If you've played video poker for a long time, I think this will be easier to cope than a person starting out.

On the flip side, the benefit is you will get to play longer with the less money.

I had played my VP for the day. Modest win, mixed feelings about going back to the belly of the beast for more combat. I certainly wasn't leaving them the five dollars; hell bent on breaking even. I was fooling around to finesse the right time for the five coin quad or full house hit. You control the price of admission. On a winning day, make the full donation. Hindsight is always twenty twenty. Happy w $62, otherwise bypassed entirely. But I was way too conservative and got royally screwed. I cannot cry over spilled milk. Too numb to cry anyway.
