Pay Tables Vegas
We just got back from The Rio in Las Vegas. We played DDB on 2 $.50 STP machines, side by side. When we started the machine on the right paid 45 for Full House and 30 for Flush. The machine on the left paid 40 for Full House and 25 for Flush. At some point during the time we were playing, the pay table on the machine on the right changed to 40 for FH and 25 for Flush. Has anyone ever seen a pay table on a machine change while being played? Seriously?

My best guess is that the person you were with was playing 9/6 Double Bonus before realizing there were no kicker pay or that the Straight paid 5 to 1 before switching to 8/5 Double Double Bonus.
8/5 DDB and 9/6/4 DB (9/6/5 DB pays around 1% more) are roughly similar payouts
You can do yourself a favor by going across the street and walking over to the Gold Coast. The STP near the escalators to the Bingo Hall is purposely set for 9/6 DDB on the STP machines.

Could be...but he is a seasoned VP player and always plays DDB. Wish I could go back & double check!

I agree with alpax. People accidentally play Double Bonus every now and again. Technically under Nevada law, a machine has to be idle for 4 minutes, and clearly display a software change to actually change paytables.
Also, it will be a cold day in Hell before Rio would intentionally offer 9/6 Double Double Bonus w/STP.
