A Year In The Life Of A Gambler
I play a lot of VP and my overall return is fairly constant year after year. Some years I play more at less than 100% return and it shows in my results. Likewise when I play games at 100% my results are much better.
In 2015 I loss more than most years but my expected return was close. We did a long road trip across the country and many states had poor pay tables. However the experience was well worth the cost.
If you enjoy the game treat it as entertainment and bet accordingly. If you expect to win overall then you had better learn proper strategy and live close to full pay casinos and use whatever kickbacks the casino gives you.
My wife and I use casinos to see the country as we like to travel and are retired. We get many free rooms and pay for the others.
An example would be CET properties. We get lousy pay tables but free rooms when travelling. In the fall we did a trip starting in Canada. We stayed free at Caesars Windsor, then crossed the boarder and stayed free at Harrah's Joliet. Then we stayed free at Harrah's Council bluffs in Iowa. Payed for a room the next two stays. The next freebie was in Reno followed by Lake Tahoe. The following night was spent free in Vegas at Paris. Then it was off to Laughlin for some free nights at Harrah's. We then started the trip back home staying south. We payed for a few nights but also got free rooms at Kansas City..Metropolis...Southern Indiana and Cincinnati. It was a great trip of site seeing at our own pace. Most of the CET casinos we also eat free with comps. To us this helps balance the cost of playing at lower pay tables. It is part of our entertainment and we enjoy it. This is the second year we have done this trip. We also do trips south adding stays at Tunica and at Biloxi.
As long as you can afford to play and enjoy it....carry on. Life is way to short!
If you enjoy the game treat it as entertainment and bet accordingly.
My wife and I also take frequent video poker vacations. If we're flexible on the dates, we find free rooms easy to get and free food is never a problem as long as your tastes aren't too extravagant. Odds are an important component in our cost of play. A free room is not worth much it you have to play a 95% machine for three days to earn it. Video poker can be inexpensive as recreation if you factor in your comps as winnings. If you think about it, what recreational activity doesn't have a cost?

The thing with CET if you give them some play free rooms are easy to get. Once you play a bit just check the website, log in and you would be surprised at the free rooms. I also get rooms free at casinos I never even play at. Weekends are a bit harder to get for me, especially in Las Vegas but during the week their are many options. I just looked today and I can get free rooms at Cherokee and the new casino at Murphy.....and I have never set foot in either. We are NOT 7 star players, just quarter gamblers.

We don't gamble in Vegas, but our mailbox is full of offers. Some places are just not worth the effort. If the odds are really bad we won't gamble there at all. I've made it no secret that we won't be back to the Beau Rivage until they quit trying to rob us. I'm sure they're not worried, but I can't explain why they think someone would play 96% games in the high limit room. Crazy...

High Roller rooms across the country must be a Soak the Rich affair. Caesars AC 8/5 dollar 97% JOB is dismal.
