What is your session bankroll?

Post by billryan »

I'm a firm believer that life is one big session but I'm still working out what my daily bankroll should be.
Right now it's $300 for minor days and $1000 for major events like 2x points days.
I'm giving serious thought to cutting those limits in half.

I usually bring about $1,000 for a 3-4 hr. session on .50 SDB at Borgata. Not prepared to lose more than that. Have lost $700-800 in a session on occasion. If the quads aren't coming, the bankroll goes quickly.
But sometimes premium quads come early on. If this happens now ,and I get up $500 or more in the first hour, I cash out and head to the Amphora Lounge. You are correct that life is all one big session, but I have put those quick winnings back down the hole so many times, I just can't do it anymore.

My rule is for every 25 cents you bet you need $100 in bankroll. However if you play JOB you can get away with a little less but TDB you might need more. Like Car if I can get a few 100 a head I head for the door.

It largely depends on the game and the pay schedule, as well as what you are playing for at the time.

Use a bankroll tool like (1) Video Poker for Winners or (2) Dunbar Video Poker Bankroll Analyzer to help you determine the bankroll you need under the assumption you play the game with 99.6% or better accuracy (4 minor mistakes out of every 1000 hands)

I played to earn a $10 gift card at the Palms for 5000 points. I had to play 1000 rounds of $1 max coin 9/6 Jacks or Better. A bankroll of $1125 is needed to survive the worst case scenario.

I also play for casino club status if it brings in benefits that I value. I value the Sapphire tier membership at B Connected Boyd Casinos since it brings in exclusive invitations to players. It is 25000 points, so 5000 rounds of $1 Deuces Wild. A bankroll of $3300 is needed to survive the worst case scenario. I have an entire calendar year to achieve this so I do not need to have $3300 on me right away, I just need to accumulate that over the year.

If the casino does not have anything to offer to the player at the time I am playing, I will not play that day. I do not stop playing because I won or lost a certain amount, I will play until I get all the points to earn the full benefit.

On big loss sessions, it will take me a few months to get back to playing again. Thousands of dollars is not easily accessible when I got bills to pay.

Anywhere from 200-800. Usually not enough unfortunately.

How did the Palms session go, Alpax? You have a very strong constitution to put a potential $1,125 at risk for a $10 gift card. I love JOB; must have been a load of fun!

You said it, Olds. I was starving for a $50 or $75 JOB quad today. Of course it came while I was in min mode. My new plan if I manage to follow up is to prepare the bankroll the night before and leave ATM home. I only rely on $70 to entertain me for three hours of quarter JOB. A second 2016 RF and I am an absolute lock guaranteed winner on the year. Of course Nyquist was a lock too. That companion RF only appeared in 2015 as a one coin lump of coal at Borgata. More's the pity! I'm playing a whole lot more max coin this year in hot pursuit.

$500 at the quarter level for a one-day session. Our tribal options are fair to good, with NSU deuces at 25c and a bank of 4 bonus deuces machines returning 99.45% for the base game with a three-way progressive with 1% meter.

I like to play quarters then switch to dollars when I'm up.   To play 3-4 hours, this usually requires a bankroll of $500.  I stash a lot of my wins so I go home with some money, which requires more money than usual.  I never want to go home totally broke. If I'm going to play 8 hours, I'll take $1,000.  I don't like to bring more than a royal ($1,000) as it seems counter productive.  Some may find this interesting.  When we go on our VP road trips, my five day total loss on a bad week is never more than $1,500.   I usually play solid all day with only food and potty breaks.  With this number of hands, I hit my share of quad deuces and royals.  My minimum dollar play sometimes bails me out, especially if I get hot with wild royals at $125 a pop or a crazy lucky $4K royal like I hit last week.
