Do you tip on hand pays?
I've had two hand pays in my short vp life. A $2,000 five of a kind and an $1199 Royal.
In both cases I tipped $50.
Tipping $50 on a $1000 wins eats up a fair bit of your winnings long term. Doing it on twenty would be equal to only hitting nineteen of them.
Do you tip for Royals or hand pays? If so, how much. If not, do you fee pressured to?

Yes I have, $10 on a $2000 jackpot and $20 on a $5000 jackpot.
The rumored etiquette for the tipping amount that I've heard from Jean Scott/$¢ott (Frugal Vegas blog) and Michael Shackleford (The Wizard of Odds) was $5 per every $1000 amount up to $100 ($5 denomination max coin royal flush). So that will be 0.5% of the hand pay amount.
I heard rumors that it does cut into the long run return somewhat significantly since the casinos are already getting tighter, the players who play for profit avoid giving tip altogether.
The reason I do tip is because in the past I learned that word spreads quickly within the casino employees if a player does not tip on a significant win; eventually it will hurt their ability to get discretionary comps down the line. Jean Scott also recently wrote about tipping with regards to staying on a casino's good graces.
I would say $50 is too much in your case, but table game players tip generous amounts on the carnival games; like about $5 on a 6 for 1 payout.

I'm a regular and play mostly dollars so have a large amount of hand pays each year. I give a flat tip of $40 for each one and add $10 for any additional pays during the same day up to a total of $80. I figure if I'm having a good night they should too.

I am more generous to the servers than someone just giving me some of my money back. I realize they are counting on cash tips as part of their income, it is just a principle thing with me. I have only had a couple of small hand pays in the 1200 range in the last couple of years. For those, I just tipped 2 or 3 bucks. I still got a nice thank you. On a 5k win, I might go up to a 20, but that would be it.

I think it's just smart business to tip, especially if you are a local or frequent the place quite a bit. You find a warmer reception and nobody talking smack about you. And being liked and appreciated goes a long way to not getting flagged. I play alot of quarter play, so tipping usually not an issue. I tip around $50 for a $4k royal, and around $20 for a $2,000 royal...$40 if I'm feeling generous. I don't have hard and fast rules with tipping, just that I do and it's enough that it's not considered an insult, but not so much that it cuts too much in the bottom line. For higher stakes players who get w2g's like water...I understand if they don't tip, at least on the lower w2g's.Cheers

Sweet C and I tip $20 for hand pays. Since most are in the $1K-$3K range we feel this is sufficient. I did tip a more on my $10K hit because I asked for part in a check which required extra processing.
I also generally tip the slot attendants who shut down a machine for me for lunch breaks and return to bring it back on line. This is generally just a couple of $.

Bob Dancer does not tip at all, not even for drinks. Seems to me, then, if you want to be a Video Poker Player who is a "WINNER". you should follow the lead of that guy....On the other hand, if you are like ME, and many others, who truly believe in life that refusing to tip is essentially one of the undeniable traits of a grade AAA Arsehole, its good to do so.......the actual amounts however, are totally up to each individual.Myself, on the RARE (VERY) rare instance I get a hand pay in AC, I totally WING IT: For instance, one time I actually hit the jackpot on the TAJ DDB progressive DDB bank of games for about 1,333.75 ........ I gave the employee the 33.75 and kept on the Benjamins.Another time, I hit the Resorts JOB progresive for 1,228.00 ..... I gave her the 28 bucks. You see where I am going?Sometimes, the pay person will bring your money and very obviously will have the last 100 dollars in 20 dollar bills, which kind of drops the hint they are EXPECTING to be tipped.....for instance, on a Ultimate 4 of a kind machine (the only one at the TAJ) I was dealt four of a kind (9s) playing Bonus poker deluxe......that means I had 5 picks on the bonus screen. I already had 2000 credits (25 cents each) from my five quad 9s, so my first four bonus game picks were 1 ace (400 credits) ......a 6, a 8 and a 9 for 200 each, and then I actually, FINALLY found the JOKER for 4000! 7000 credits total...... My total hand pay was $1,750! Since this was the first and only time I ever hit the joker, or had a hand pay for this game, I tipped the girl 50 bucks (even though, again she brought 16 benjamins and the rest in 20s and 5s, thus EXPECTING a tip!)I will never understand the warped, selfish logic of people who do not tip.....period

I generally tip 1% of the jackpot, with a minimum $20 tip. If they are really slow bringing the money, I might lower tip to $10.

When I have a winning night I always tip the sweet little lady that cleans up around the machines $20. Several times a night she checks on me and 'blesses' my machine. I don't think they get many tips and it makes us both feel good.
