Nobody will believe this, but here goes
Trip up to Mohegan Sun Friday night after enjoying the beautiful weather we have been having lately. Low budget night. Playing just Double Down Stud bet 1 or bet 2 quarters since I have just about given up on hitting Royals on any form of Draw Poker. The night was going OK. Every so often I would hit a dealt wild royal or 5 of a kind which on the Deuces Wild DDStud game pays well.
After awhile a nice lady about my age sits down next to me to play Ultimate x quarter game with 3 lines on DDB. She says she is already out 2k for the evening and hopes I bring her luck. We are in a cluster on only 2 machines. Mine and hers. I had just hit a wild royal with bet 1 and the credits were still adding up when she grabs my arm in disbelief. She has hit Royals on 2 lines holding 3 in less than 5 minutes of play for 2k. She has her money back. We exchange first names and I congratulate her. She gets the hand pay and leaves.
I play a few more minutes back and forth on my game and cash out a couple of bucks ahead. I go try another of the same DDStud machines in the same general area. This is a long bank of machines in this row. I hit 5 of a kind right away and the credits are adding up. I have only bet 1 quarter. Two machines over, a Hispanic guy has just started to play with relatives watching. He speaks no English. On his second or third hand he tosses a pair of Kings on job which I would never do and holds 3 to a Royal. He pulls the Royal in diamonds. Here is the kicker. He thought he had been playing quarters, but the machine was set on dollars so he hit for 4k. The relatives go wild until the suits arrive. He has a license and credit card from Ny, but no SS number. They are trying to explain to him about taxes, the rules etc. He starts making cell phone calls in Spanish. More suits arrive. I leave as they are still trying to decide what to do. I know they won't pay him without a valid taxpayer ID number. I move on to another Double Down machine in a different part of the casino.
I am still betting 1 quarter and am about even. A very elderly lady shows up with a walker and wants to play the machine next to me which is littered with napkins, glasses, butts, etc. It is Friday night so there at the moment is a shortage of clean up people. I take care of it for her and then wipe it down with some wash ups. She is happy and starts to play DDB. In 3 minutes she hits a quad. She is very happy. Cashes out that ticket and puts another twenty in. I am not paying much attention, since I am being dealt deuces pretty well on the DDS game. I up my bet from bet 1 to bet 2 and hit back to back quads then a straight flush. Ahead about ten bucks, I was thinking about cashing out when I hear OMG from the elderly lady. She has held 3 diamonds and pulled the other two for the Royal good for 1k. She is so nervous, she forgets how to dial her son on the cell phone. The machine is playing its loud jackpot tune. I help her get her cell phone out of some crazy menu and hit her son's speed dial number for her. She starts crying and talking to her son. I cash out, give her a congrats tap on the shoulder, and leave. I am happy for at least 2 of the 3 people who hit, but I need a beer. I opt for O'Douls since I am driving this time. No room. I take a long walk in the mall and check out a couple of neat muscle cars that will be auctioned off next week as part of the Barrett Jackson event. I am up about ten bucks so all is well I guess. I woke up on the right side of the grass today, had beautiful weather, and made gas money. What more can I ask for......

olds.... been there several times. I remember several years ago sensing someone standing behind me watching. I eventually turn around. A man apologizes but says he's interested in learning to play. My timing is off so I'm not hitting much so I have him sit beside me to teaching him the fundamentals of Deuces Wild. As I slowly continue to play, we go through each hand with the rationale for holds, no holds, etc. He is getting great hands dealt... he moves up from 5 hand 5¢ to 10 still hitting and playing more independently. He moves to 20 hands and turns to me a few hands later and says, "look I hit 4 deuces!"
I turn to see he had indeed hit 4 deuces ( a dealt 4 deuces on 20 hands). I congratulated him and cover my tears with the complaint of smoke in my eyes.
BTW: We're both old enough to remember the song by Ruby and the Romantics "Our Day Will Come".

Sweet C had same type of experience last trip. Woman down from her playing 3 play catches 2 Royals holding 4/RF. She moves down and hits a single RF on the second machine less than 10 minutes later.
Take care we really enjoyed our trip to MS and saw where Foxwoods was going to build on the Gulf Coast in Mississippi in 2019.

I dunno if I have seen three of my more immediate neighbors hit a royal in the same night, but I have probably seen 3 in a night a time or two if you include my walking around on a busy night. And I definitely seemed to notice more while going through my last major royalless streak.
But what I'm more concerned with, why are they hitting them, and not you? Because obviously people are getting royals at MS sometimes.

Glad you had a great night Olds! I too get happy to see elders get a good hit on a VP or slot machine. If that Hispanic dude didn't have a SS card, don't they have the option to hold a percentage of the winnings for taxes and pay him the difference?

I'm not sure of the exact rules when you don't have a valid SS number. I don't think they pay at all with no ID which this guy did have. LL I have that song on my computer and play it often along with Angel Baby by Rosie. Very few regular FM stations play this music anymore. I guess the audience is shrinking. Speaking of which just started my diet. 1st ten are easy. 36 to go to get to my old fighting weight of 148. Thanks for the link. Finally, Vman...I like Lagers a lot. What is the latest I should try. I got a couple of good ones for Father's Day already. Good luck all.

Here you don't need a social security card. Just a valid photo ID and you sign an Affidavit verifying your SS. But you story reminds me of a similar one years ago. A friend of mine had walked into the casino I had been there for about 4 hours. Was holding my own back in the day when that was possible
Anyway he put a $100 in the progressive and hit the $1 royal for $5,700. Waiting to get paid he went to the .50 progressive and hit it for $2,500. Then went back to the other end of the $1 progressive and hit it again for $4,000.21. He had all 3 machines locked up.
Over $12k in a matter of minutes. The 1st one I was happy for him, the 2nd one I was like ok come on now. And the 3rd he just shrugged his shoulders.
The only other VP story that beats that was a long time ago when machines still used the big coins. I saw a lady put a $20 in and hit AWAK back to back to back. That's right 3 times in a row no other hands in between. They paid her the 1st one, unlocked the machine and it dealt it to here again. Paid and unlocked and she held 1 and got it for the 3rd time.

He might get paid if taxes are withheld? Unsure about that.
Lagers...hmmm...I haven't dabbled into too many lagers. The one craft lager I tried in Vegas last trip doesn't exist up in your neck of the woods. :( If you haven't had a Yeungling yet, I would suggest that. Sam Adams Double Agent IPL maybe? The craft scene isn't that big on lagers. My go to lagers are typically Budweiser and Bud Light Platinum when I'm in Tunica...lol

He's going to get the money one way or another. If he does not have the necessary documentation the win is placed in safekeeping and he gets a verified receipt. Once he can produce documentation he gets his money. The instant a jackpot is hit it becomes a debit for the casino until the customer is paid. In most states where I have played if you have a valid state ID with photo (drivers license or state-issued ID card) then all you have to do is give them an SS number, no card required. But if the winner told them upfront that he does not have an SS number and he does not have a valid visa proving foreign citizenship, then the casino has no choice but to follow the rules. However, he will not lose the money --- it is in safekeeping forever.
When you go to LV you see many jackpot winners who don't have an SS number because they are foreign nationals, but they can prove it.

Yup. I had this happen to me. I had lost my drivers license and hit a $2000 hand pay which I couldn't collect. Once I had my license again I was able to make the trip up to the casino and collect my winnings. I'm guessing that eventually it would get transferred into the states "unclaimed property" fund.
