Guess the outcome
I'll set up the situation and you guys can take a poke at what the final decision was.
Okay, I stop by to play for a short time go to the vp area and sure enough there's 2 guys smoking cigars and the entire area stinks. I turn to my last resort, the dreaded table tops at the bar. Checking the buttons at the first machine sure enough all the buttons are messed up. Check another machine that seems to be working, turns out it has issues also, a couple of the buttons are sticking so I try to use the screen to hold certain cards but it would also hold the card next to the chosen card. I finally find a machine that appears to be working fine. I've only played for a few minutes but I could have swore I held the card in the 3rd spot going for a straight but the card was gone after I hit the deal button. Now I wasn't sure because I play so fast. A hew hands later I am dealt K/clubs on the 2 spot, 10/clubs in the 3 spot and J/clubs in the 5 spot. I hold the cards and out pops the A/club in the 1 spot and Q/clubs in the 4 spot. All I see are the 2 cards I'm looking for and when they pop I know I have the royal, problem was the 10/ clubs in the 3 spot wasn't there anymore, I know I held it and the machine said I held it but it wasn't there. Out of frustration I smack the deal button and am dealt a straight. I can't let this go though and stop playing and wait for a machine attendant to explain my problem to. The machine attendant then calls for a tech guy. The guy goes back one hand and sees the hand in question so he proceeds to check the buttons, he decides all the buttons are working properly and I probably just thought I held the card. I explain to him I know for a fact I held the card and the machine said I held the card but it was gone when the I hit the deal button. He decides to watch me play a few hands. I can't get anything to hold in the 3 spot for several hands then I get the chance to hold a pair of 9's one in the 3 spot, the machines works fine. A couple of hands later I get another chance to hold the card in the 3 spot, once again the machine works fine. Finally I get dealt trip kings one in the 3 spot, I hold the cards and hit the deal button and sure enough the king in the spot was gone. I turn and say I hope you saw that. The tech said I sure did but I have no idea how it just happened. He ask me to cash out and shuts down the machine to try and figure out what is going on. Management is called and the situation is explained by me and the tech. The manager says she can't really do anything so calls for the big dog, a very nice man but he's really not buying into my explanation of what happened. He then pulls the tech guy over to the side and they talk for a few minutes. The big dog comes back and over to me with his decision.
Guess what the big dogs decision was.

They close down the machine.
Yep, to me they were admitting there was a definite problem with the machine.
By the way all the guesses have been good and all contain a portion of what the final decision ended up being.

They closed down machine...Offered you the buffet while they checked surveillance, to see that you held the card, then gave you the win!!!

Although, if that was the case, since the machine didn't generate the win, they may have had to pay it to you in the form of promo.

After a long wait in which both the tech and casino manager left I was paid for the royal. To be honest I fully expected they wouldn't pay me.

Kudos to you to bringing it up, I think they've decided it was wise to avoid a potential lawsuit and defamation that was not worth over a few thousand dollars especially when the tech has to testify under oath.
