Deuces Wild Hold
I recall that the forum consensus hold when dealt a two deuce DW quad was to grab the deuces and pray. But when dealt 2 2 10h 10c 3d today, my trainer told me that I just lost 1.91 EV. My hold was 2.02 and the quad is 3.94.Thoughts? Is the forum crowd just shooting from the hip on this? I am a JOB player who is finally seeking to transition away from the boredom.

Working on admittedly hazy memories of this discussion in the past. If we may address the essential, I'd appreciate.

If I understand the question correctly, you never throw away quads on DW when 2 deuces are dealt. You do toss a straight however when 2 deuces are dealt, and you even toss a straight flush when 3 deuces are dealt. Many players toss 5 of a kind when 3 deuces are dealt, but I won't. They will even toss a wild royal when 3 deuces are dealt. In the long run, that's a killer to the bankroll.

Hold 4OAK that includes two 2s. It's not even close.

Did that twice the same day. First time it worked. Second time brought me back to reality. That was in a week where I hit a Royal for $1199 and four Deuce's seven days in a row.

Yeah you only hold 2 deuces in many scenarios, but a dealt four of a kind isn't one of them. It's too valuable to let go.

If you're playing a game where quints pay 60 or less I would. You yourself typically aren't though.

In general it's not a smart plan to ask a group on a forum open to everybody for strategy advice --- especially when you don't give the exact pay schedule and all five cards. Here the answers were universally to hold the 2-deuce quad, and that is certainly USUALLY the correct play, but not always. There are pay schedules where on a hand like W W Jh Th Ts, it's better to hold WWJT over WWTT. Were you asking about such a pay schedule? Who knows? You didn't say. And since you didn't say, anybody who told you how to play it was wrong because the correct answer is "it depends."100% accurate information is available so easily. There are computer products for sale, this site allows you to ask about hands if you're a gold member and it's one of the pay schedules they support, and the wizardofodds.com site lets you ask online for free such questions about virtually ANY pay table. If you're trying to get good at a game, using computerized help is essential. If it's a game I've written a Winner's Guide before, that's an inexpensive way to get plentiful accurate information. There's a reason why they tell you it's inefficient to try to reinvent the wheel. There are LOTS and LOTS of hands to learn, on LOTS and LOTS of games, and asking on a forum for each of them is not a systematic way to learn. Especially, like in this case, everybody gives you an answer that could have been wrong, depending . . .

I do not recall ever encountering one. Could you elaborate?
