Nonpolitical, non-rant #1 of 2018

Post by DaBurglar »

I intend to honor my pledge to the forum community about initiating any rants that involve or focus on political issues or topics ( although I do reserve to right to respond to other people who post or initiate political themed threads and posts, but of course I will try and limit my response length in such instances).

So here goes: the subject, or topic area of this thread will simply be the ongoing crisis in America regarding veteran healthcare and ancillary issues like the opioid crisis / epidemic which is deeply intertwined with the type & quality of healthcare the government/V.A. "inflicts" on many of our poor hapless vets.

If you do simple research on the topic(s), you will encounter numerous articles and source materials which document and prove that, since shortly after the invasions of Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, when large numbers of casualties resulted in a huge spike in the numbers of vets requiring ongoing, complex medical care and health/wellness resources, one of the "methods" utilized by the overwhelmed and substandard Veterans Administration doctors was simply to prescribe large, massive amounts of opiates to many of our brave grievously wounded vets. Like all things involving the federal bureaucracy and especially the military, it turned into a cluster-fornication. From 2003 to around 2015 many VA clinics, hospitals, and physicians simply dumped huge, medically unjustifiable amounts of opiates into and onto our vets and our communities, which subsequently spread into and out of other parts of society.

When otherwise healthy, vibrant middle class and upper class kids (age 15- 20) in many communities all over the country started dropping dead (beginning in earnest around 2008/2009) from overdose due to prescribed opiates, people started asking where the hell healthy kids were getting such drugs in such amounts, or more specifically, "where were these prescription drugs coming from in the first place before ending up in the hands of kids out there in mainstream society, one of the first places that stood out at that point in time was the VA!

The crisis has since morphed and taken many different paths and produced many different culprits and causes, but one of the first initial causes was the broken health care system we pass off as "Veterans care"! We need and deserve better, but most importantly, the vets need something far far better.
