Harrah's New Orleans

Post by Tedlark »

For those of you who spend time at Harrah's New Orleans I came across a bit of news that I thought I'd share.

Harrah's representatives recently met with officials from the Greater New Orleans Hotel & Lodging Association to propose a new 24 story (340 room) hotel near their casino's main entrance. The plans call for no expansion of the gaming square footage but the hotel would have a rooftop pool and a clear roof over a closed off section of Fulton Street that would be used for outdoor entertainment.

The proposal also would guarantee that Harrah's paid for the next 10 years, the cost of police and fire services extended to the casino by the City of New Orleans.

Lastly it mentions that Harrah's is also seeking an extensionof its casino operating contract with the state, which expires in 2024.

This is a totally non-smoking casino, for those who are interested. There are covered, protected smoking areas immediately outside the casino. The only real drawbacks to this casino are (a) the tax rate on jackpots is 6%, non-refundable for out-of-state; (b) parking is not very good; and (c) many of the paytables are not the best. The casino itself is only an hour or so away from much better casinos on the Mississippi coast, but if you're in New Orleans anyway.......
