casino 'no smoking' closed rooms
Just thinking - Why should non-smokers be isolated from the general casino and provided with small, closed-off areas when the SMOKERS should be the ones isolated !!

The smokers smell bad and die young. Allow them some small pleasure. They no longer "Die young".....thanks to "modern medicine", they cling to life well into their late 70s, early 80s and beyond, hacking/coughing/wheezing every month as Medicare shells out BILLIONS and BILLIONS keeping them alive so they can continue smoking (the ones who refuse to quit), while those of us who avoid behaviors and habits which directly contribute to poor health do not receive any sort of "healthy living rebate" or discount from Medicare. I want everyone to understand something here: it is NOT that I despise tobacco or people who choose to ignore overwhelming incontrovertible evidence and smoke anyway......it is the nonsensical hypocrisy that exists in this "nation" where we literally have hundreds of thousands of decent able bodied citizens rotting in prison for non violent drug offenses (a high percentage of which still involve Marijuana which at the very least is NO WORSE than tobacco....and at the very MOST has many benefits and uses that Tobacco does not), further costing society untold Billions when you factor in everything including costs of incarceration, legal costs and the lost productivity/opportunities of these people! Furthermore, until very recently, we used to look down on Alcoholics and drug addicts and made it very hard to get treatment...but not for Tobacco addicts! Nope, it never mattered how obstinate smokers were, anytime they got cancer or emphysema or COPD, hospitals would do anything to save them! Again, absurd hypocrisy......EDITED to ADD: "Da Burglar's Galling Stat of the Month".....over the Last Few Years the USA spends approximately 670-680 BILLION dollars per annum on Medicare........25% of that (nearly 170 BILLION) is spent on the LAST year of people's lives, essentially helping them DIE.

I quit smoking 40 years ago. Best thing I ever did. Never did drugs, quite honestly because I was afraid of them. Saw what they did to my friends back in the old neighborhood in Queens and said no thanks, I'll stick with drinking.Cost me some friendships, but again, probably a good thing. One of the best feelings is actually getting on Medicare and spending $ 800 a month less for my health care. After contributing for all these years, nice to get something back.

Eventually all casinos will be non-smoking. Two reasons:
1st, the younger generations simply don't have as many smokers as the older generations do. Casinos will need to market to younger generations as years go by if they want to stay in business.
2nd, municipal and state non-smoking regulations are becoming more and more prevalent. What happened in New Orleans two years ago is an indicator of things to come ---- the local casino fought hard to be exempted from non-smoking regulations but the city council refused, and so now the casino is totally non-smoking. While it has lost some smokers, it has gained plenty of younger players.
To those such as carcounter who have quit, congratulations for adding years of good health to your life. For those who are still smoking and wish to quit, ask your physician for help. Many insurance programs actually cover cigarette smoking medical intervention. Regardless of your age, quitting now provides immediate health benefits --- it is never too late.

Unfortunately, no smoke free casinos in AZ and most smoke free areas have lousy machines. One reason we switched to bingo where we can sit and enjoy a smoke free room and have a good time as well.

I'm also glad your medicare is working out for you.....yes, you are an example of how it was SUPPOSED to work when first conceived many decades ago, you paid into it and now you reap the benefits in your retirement. The USA is the ONLY.....ONLY advanced, modern free market/capitalist oriented nation remaining in the world that does NOT simply have basic healthcare available for ALL it's residents as a basic human RIGHT. Obamacare was/is a joke, but I don't say that for the same reasons as the callous, mean spirited Republicans who want to deny health COVERAGE to everyone except the wealthy....Obamacare was a sham that tried to have what we should have, namely universal health coverage for everyone, while at the same time maintaining the contradiction and impediment of the excessive PROFIT element baked within the Healthcare Delivery in the USA. In other words, Obama and the Democrats are just as guilty as the Republicans when it comes to giving in to the greed and lobbying of the various healthcare industry interests. Yes, as far as healthcare goes, the USA is devoted to making certain people extremely wealthy off the misery, sickness and misfortune of others......
