Re: increase in crime

I have not seen the video, but Astoria hasn't been majority greek since the late 90s. The projects are almost all black, and the Mexican and Equadorian population exploded in the 90s.
Astoria is sort of like Little Italy. Lots of Greek business's and places to eat Greek food, but not so many Greeks living there. With Long Island City becoming a hipster community, I wouldn't be surprised if many of them spilled over to Astoria
The Jackson Heights/Corona/Elmhurst neighborhoods were the hardest hit areas of NYC, and the USofA during NYs crisis. My old Parish- St Joans lost twenty something people in the September 11th terror attacks, and has lost over 300 people to the virus. That number is actually a few weeks old now, it must have gone up a bit. Being a middle class working neighborhood, many residents were deemed essential workers and couldn't shelter in place.

There is a website called "New Geography" run by a fellow named Joel Kotkin. Google it and enter the words "White City". It will explain a lot of what is happening in Portland and Seattle. Not a lot of African-Americans in those places, but lots of angry white kids.
Looks like a lot of angry white moms, as well.

I'm not sure how anyone can watch those Federal goons assaulting a former Naval Officer who was doing nothing but stand there with his hands in the air. First they beat him with their clubs, then another goon sprays gas in his face from six inches away. The Veteran, a graduate of The Naval Academy had the bones in his hand and wrist shattered by the numerous blows. All for the crime of peacefully demonstrating.
Now Fox News is digging into the mans past, as if anything he did years ago would justify this garbage.

interesting what you can overlook just to comment on what might be an inappropriate action from law enforcement.

the millions in defaced and destroyed federal tax payer funded property. the millions in destroyed private property. the millions in looted/stolen merchandise. the remarkable increase in the number of murders. the non stop terror caused by a group of largely spoiled, non working, non tax paying, 'participation' award winning young people.

you can overlook it, but the voters will not. guess who they will blame?

doug, you should be proud of your daughter, i am sure you are!

do you find some of BR's statements interesting? first, when he was leaving the vegas area, he touted the price of property, that was less than what we paid to re-tile our roof. now, he is touting that there are many $50k houses available, in his new location. fifty thousand for a house doesn't sound like the by product of a successful career for someone in their 50-60's. and, turning his broken down bakery into a community center? maybe, his dumpster diving business and selling his finds online is not going so well.

you may be right. he, like so many who thought thought they could out math the vegas casinos, was not quite what they expected.
Interesting he is forced to live in an RV . . . just like can't afford a house in that jewel called Henderson. (hahahaha). And, he misrepresents "his" land as "his", rather than parkland. When we lived in Los Alamos, we must have been really lucky to own the Sangre de Cristo mountains, because geez, our house was RIGHT THERE next to the mountains. :D

Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Reading is fundimental. I live on land leased from the BLM. It's not open to the public. As long as I pay the lease, it's mine. Others have the same arrangements and there is a common area, along with some five miles of nature trails, again not open to the public.
My building and the investment land is some ten miles away, in Bisbee. Paid cash for everything, but then took a loan out on the land to get it up to code in order to rent it.

Do you own your house outright? If not why do you call it yours? Do you say "the car I lease from Citibank" or do you say 'My car"

why is it those who are always bringing up what few financial assets they have, always have the least impressive amount of wealth?

I don't know. Why do they? Is this some pearl of wisdom you want to share? Do you judge people by their assets?
Several people have expressed interest and I'm trying to show how much one can get with not a lot of money down here. If that bothers you, ignore it.

since you first started on this forum, you have attempted to impress others with what you believe are signs of your financial successes;

-you told us about your comic book store in nyc
-your beer joint nyc, where you wouldn't even pay your employees social security benefits, while touting your 'liberal' concern for those not well off financially
-then you bragged about your vegas area apartment rental and what a wise financial move it was to rent rather than own
--you repeatedly brought up your gambling know how and the crowd you were hanging with, who were making a living off casino gambling
-then off to a new location, where you then decide it was better to own than rent and bought some broken down combination residential/commercial property
-then you became an expert on selling useless crap on ebay
-now, you have moved to another location, with plenty of $50 k homes and for next to no cost, one can walk trails from the BLM.

all along, i don't recall anyone asking about you about your business savvy, no one made any inquires. no one is impressed, except you.
