Many of the downtown Vegas casinos allowed a player to visit the cage and then walk to an exit without seeing much, if any, machines. Don't know about any changes done in the past year and a half though.....

Which ones are you thinking of? The El Cortez and Four Queens have the cage right in the middle. The golden Gate is close to the door, but not at it. I cant picture the others just now.

The Golden Nugget had their cage fairly close to the exit right out on to Fremont, you only had to pass some tables and a few slots.
The plaza used to have an exit out to the parking garage very close to the cage they had up until at least 2010....
It all depends on what constitutes "close"....Of course, when we think of cages being nestled deep in the bowels of a casino, the ones on the strip in the huge casinos are the ones we think of as the worst, so anything that's better than that deserves mention.
When speaking of the older downtown Vegas casinos, the mere fact they are much much smaller obviously plays a part....
