Re: My Name Was Drawn
Excellent, well thought out suggestion, and you were appropriately rewarded.
FWIW, I have always been successful in obtaining a full refund of all gambling related US tax withholdings. I have never been asked to substantiate reported losses.
This is interesting. I always assumed you had to claim wins and losses and show some sort of a negative return to get your with holding tax back. I will have some losses at other casinos I am sure (but hope not) so I can also use that if needed.

I did not intend for my comment to be interpreted to mean no win-loss information has to be provided - there is a spot on the 1040NR form where total gambling wins and losses are identified. But, I have never been asked by the IRS to supply anything to back up my numbers.
It does not take several years to recover withheld taxes. There were a couple of slow years (2014 and 2015), but otherwise, the process has been quite speedy. Our 2016 returns, for example, were mailed February 10, 2017, and we had our refunds in hand by mid-March.
