Car talk......
Just opening up this thread to see how much interest there is. Cars, trucks, and boats are a nice diversion from VP. Post any or all of your stories. From your distant past or just yesterday. Any good technical advice to share? Post that as well. Checking out a new car or truck or have an experience with one you just bought....post it here. This could be fun. We'll see how it goes. I can think of a half dozen or so of us posters who have tons of stories, but I don't want to take up the forum space with mine yet. Anyway, forget about vp for a moment and post your memories or experiences good or bad. We could all use a break once in awhile.....

If we're talking cars, trucks, 70's conversion vans, motorcycles, et al, shouldn't you have said: We could all use a BRAKE once in a while????

Well,
I almost bought a Rolls Royce a couple of weeks ago.
Was at an estate sale and there was a mid 60s Corniche (sp) that was stored at another location. The car had sat for several years as the tags expired in early 2015. Body looked good but there was so much dust you couldn't really see the paint. Car wouldn't start but after a prolonged charge, it kicked over. Ran a little rough but the exhaust was good. In the glove box was a $4,000 bill for a brake overhaul in early 2013, but only 800 miles earlier. I couldn't find a comparable sale online.
As there were several interested parties, they decided to do an auction, starting at $15,000. No one opened.
Terms of the estate sale were cash, that day, so I asked if this was a cash sale today only, and after a quick consult they said 10% due today, rest in 72 hours or something like that.
So I bid $10,000 and decided I'd go as high as $15,000.
A few people were in and I dropped out with the bidding stalling at $16.5. I offered $16.6 but was told $500 increments. A new bidder entered and it ended up selling for $22,000.
The next week, I came across a fully custom 1978 Ford Van, with buttontuck, Captains Chairs, and portholes.22,000 original miles on it.
But that's another story.
