I'm going to simply say I am a staunch adherent to mathematical principles ......... as well as "going with one's gut" in certain situations based on personal observation and/or intuition. Isn't this the same as saying: I follow the math - except when I don't?
That should be the official motto of the place.

I have no idea what DaBurglar even means by 'personal observation and/or intuition'. Those things should never come into play when playing VP optimally.
Is he saying that normally he plays by the book, but that if he were hitting quads a lot on a certain day, that he would keep a small pair over a 4-flush? I'm confused.

Math is boring
Quads are good
Toss an inside straight
Like you never should
Hold two for a royal
Let the haters hate
Then draw the other three
And celebrate

Others here with overly eager urges to pounce then chose to (mis)-interpret what I said.....read below:************************************************************************************
Math vs. Personal Observation.
It's pretty obvious which side most here side with.???? huh??? What are you talking about precisely, and what's the application of the point you are making?Without
knowing your response, I'm going to simply say I am a staunch adherent
to mathematical principles and properties, and a staunch adherent and
believer in the powers of keen personal observation, as well as "going
with one's gut" in certain situations based on personal observation
and/or intuition. In other words, you need to evaluate each situation
and scenario by itself (and within itself).....one at a time. I
believe The vast majority of Casinos in the USA are fair and properly
operated and receive proper oversight......I also allow for, and
personally have observed, that in AC there may be a few exceptions to
this otherwise solid premise.
I'm still not sure what you're implying.. that onemoretry quoted you out of context or something? That his snippet changed the overall meaning of your post?
Your quote, verbatim and unabridged, was:

That sounds almost exactly like "I follow the math - except when I don't" to me.

Me too. Another version would be: I am a staunch adherent to the speed limit when I drive and a staunch adherent and believer of driving above the posted speed limit when my gut tells me to.

Much of the time people have no choice.....2) I clearly state I believe in the power of Personal Observation (i.e. paying attention).....again, another NON controversial principle that has its place in Video Poker. Failure to be observant can lead to many problems and lost opportunities.3) I clearly state (without getting specific) there are times when a person may go with their gut or "intuition".....this does not mean abandoning or forgoing math, nor it is exclusive of it......I am not saying (nor did I ever say or imply) that this means doing something like tossing a flush draw to go for a quad, although I would wager there ARE people here who would do that from time to time. What I had more in mind is "going with one's gut on selecting one machine or game over another, with or without there being some clear advantage"....or choosing to play at one casino over another, again with or without a clear advantage or reason to do so. MANY people on this forum have posted exactly this type of "gut level" decision making: You'll find posts made by people who say "I just felt the urge to play at <insert casino name>", or I felt "<such and such> machine calling my name, even though the paytable is only a crappy 96%" etc.If you want to stay with your strict, minimalist interpretation of what I said in reponse to a wide open generalization by another poster, go right ahead....

If you staunchly adhere to math then you would not be giving into an urge to play at <insert casino name>.
Another weak attempt at digging yourself out of the hole you dug yourself into.
