I would suspect that the multi-line machines with good paytables were taken out because they were a great way to run big coin-in thru with minimal variance. Bob D has talked about this being a way to qualify for certain promotions.

Kshman, I am totally in agreement with you. I actually have the bankroll to go out to Las Vegas and play professionally, but I have zero interest in that lifestyle. I make far more money with far less stress with my engineering consulting business. VP is a Friday afternoon hobby for me. One disagreement with Phil though, I would never play 97% games if they were all that was available.
There are literally dozens of better plays here than grinding it out playing VP.

I'm sure there are plays out there in Las Vegas that don't require grinding it out on VP if you have a decent 250k bankroll, but that lifestyle is ok for some of us, but not others. I have posted before about how some of the AP's I knew in AC aged very quickly chasing the plays that were available at one time in AC.

One of the guys I work with came a month after me and is making a go of it. He arrived with $5,000 and borrowed an equal amount to use as seed money. It must have been hard laying out all he owned in the expectation of getting future mailings far in excess of his losses, but it seems to have worked pretty nice.
If you want to do it, you don't need $250,000. If you don't want to do it, the money won't help. What you need is ambition and drive. Not everyone has that, nor are a lot of people willing to forego a nice steady paycheck, with sick days, vacations and a 401K.

I played 9/6 JOB yesterday for 0ver 11 hours. Not many willing to play longer then four hours. I am also in that boat of a steady paycheck, 8 sick days, 25 vacation days and company still paying in my pension. One day will take the plunge.

If mailer play as opposed to grinding means -EV games played because they generate disproportionately large mailers, $10k seems like a very small bankroll for that.
I guess not if you knew in advance that the machine had the propreties you were looking for?

Knowledge is the key. Studying and learning from others is also key. Learning who actually knows what they are talking about is also pretty important.
2K lost in one casino might get you a buffet line pass, but the same loss in another casino might get you $100 a week in mailings for the next few months.
