To answer FP's "how do they get the bankroll?" question, everybody had a different path. There is no one unique path that we all took.
I think there is a misconception among some players that just anyone can make a nice living playing VP in Vegas. I did for a while. I can see how a Vegas local could play positive quarter games, take advantage of comps and make a few dollars. In a town where you can get your dog groomed for free just for playing VP, you may even pay your rent.
To make $100K a year or more playing VP, you need access to resources and time. Those resources need to be money and time you are willing to lose. The payoff could take days, months or even years. If I took $500K out of my investments and played next to BD, would I ever make money? I know I can't because I can't play error free. At 71, my eyes aren't as good as they once were and my body won't let me sit in a chair all day. I also don't have enough discipline. As soon as I got down $100K, I would be running to the door. Players like BD also know where the opportunities are, I don't. Who is going to give away inside information that is paying them big money? No one.
Personally, I think making a nice living playing VP is a phenomenal achievement. It's never going to happen for me, so I choose to enjoy VP as inexpensively as I can.
