Re: Check Everything Part 2
If you are so sure playing the right games will make you a profit, why not quit your job and play VP? Who wants to work when all you have to do is push buttons?

Stunning that my cautionary thread spawned a sequel of five pages and counting. Idle chatter supreme.

Some people are wondering why anyone cares about these things. Math doesn't lie. If you set up a computer simulation to play positive VP perfectly, you will get a positive result. Teaching players how to find better games and play them with computer like skill is a good thing. This gives them more play for their money. Here's where the train goes off the tracks. Humans are not computers. They make mistakes. They make poor decisions. They panic or they let their dreams override their plans. We start out with good intentions, then we find ourselves down a different path. A few players avoid these pitfalls, most can not.
What we should do is put more emphasis on human frailties than math formulas. Most of the losses in a casino are self inflicted. Discipline is a word that is thrown around on this forum. A lack of discipline causes more VP losses than all the negative games put together.
I play the best games I can find. I accept the fact that the computer is right when it tells me what cards to play. I take advantage of comps. I know my games are long term losers, so I play small to limit my losses. I learned all this on this forum. The result is I have a hobby that I enjoy without the worry of personal or financial injury.
I can't find positive VP opportunities without excessive risk. I can't play perfect forever. I sometimes take a pot shot. If I see a bunch of quads come up in a row, I want to switch to a terrible DDB game. All these things make my losses bigger than the math says they should be. I am working on those problems. What I want visitors to this forum to know is we are not all perfect and we don't all make money playing VP. Most of us are just like them. We are human.
