Re: Found 99 percent machines at Mohegan Sun that pay points
FAA.....I joined your 250 Royal clib the other day. I was playing tripple play deuces at a buck a line. I wanted to increase my chances of hitting quad deuces in the few hours I had to play and didnt want to bet more than that and bust out in a half hour. Yep you guessed it. Royal on the top lined. Kissed 4,000 bucks goodbye. By the end of the session the 250 and more was gone.

Yep, it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye, or gets a short pay Royal thanks to taking horrible advice.

Actually, I kissed 550 bucks goodbye. The difference between 250 and 800. At any rate. I had put my last hundred in that machine. When it hit the other day, there was less than 20 bucks left of the hundred. That means, if I had been playing 5 bucks a line on all three lines, I wouldn't have hit the Royal at all. Would have busted the bank many deals before the Royal hit with bet one per line. I have gone about a hundred thousand hands now without hitting a Royal on the deal line of a single line or the bottom line of a Triple play machine, or the center line which I also call the deal line on Triple play spin poker.

Hitting a short royal can be a curse or a blessing, depending upon how you look at it. Playing short coin on a negative VP game saves money by reducing your coin-in. You pay for it when you are short changed on the royal flush. I hate hitting short coin royals, who doesn't? I console myself by remembering how much money I saved. A $4,000 royal is not a winner if it costs you $10,000 to hit it.

I "lost" $3,750. Just in preservation mode. No real BR to pursue max play, but wanted to play. Hell bent on adjacent machine, which some fat ass lady was killing time on staring at the room.

Playing single coin VP is not for everyone. There are some advantages. First, you can play VP longer with the same money. If you walk into the casino with $100, you are guaranteed to be able to play at least 20 max coin (5) dollar hands before you run out of money. If you play single coin quarters, you are guaranteed to be able to play at least 400 hands with the same $100 bill. This means you will see more jackpots with the same money. They will be smaller.
Second, in some cases you can actually gain better odds by playing single coin at a higher denomination. My home casino in Tampa is like this. Thirdly, if you are playing negative VP games, you will reduce the house take by reducing your coin-in. This savings can be significant depending upon the odds of the games you have to play.
There are also disadvantages. The worst is suffering through short coin royals. This could mean the difference between being paid $1,000 and $62.50 for a royal flush. You will not forget these easily. Your friends will call you an idiot and you will wish you had played max coins. Also, you won't get many comps playing single coin VP.
I am sure I have played more single coin VP than anyone on this forum. Here is some advice I learned the hard way. If you are going to play single coin VP, always play single coin. Never switch between single coin and max coins. You are giving up the advantages for the disadvantages. Never play 2-3 or 4 coins. Play either 1 or 5. Be aware that single coin strategy is different. If you are going to be a single coin player, learn single coin strategy. VPW software allows for this. It also allows you to experiment with denominations as well.
I don't play single coin these days. Two years ago I increased my playing budget so I can play max coins all the time. It costs me more to play long term, but it's worth not having to see a short coin royal. That is not an experience I wish to repeat.

I think there are some important lessons to learn from FloridPhil's mistakes.
The most important lesson would probably be: Don't take advice from FloridaPhil.
Just play the way you want to and you won't be any worse off than following his ever-changing habits and advice.
