Fair enough, but no interest in just immediately leaving for the day a smaller loser when you want to quit? Or do you feel the need to either win for the day, or lose your entire day's stake trying?FloridaPhil wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2019 11:39 amOf course that happens. I only do this at the end of the day and only when I am ready to go home. If I stick with quarter play, I need a quad deuce or a royal to take any money home. Playing dollars, I don't need a rare hand to make a difference. A small run of medium wins will do the trick. If nothing good happens I go home with exactly the same amount of money as if I didn't move up, None. Switching from hourly dollar pot shots to saving up until the end of the day has worked. I don't know why, but it has. I could play dollars all the time, but the game would eat my bankroll faster than you could spell Tinkerbell.

I do not. Personally, I would rather walk out with half my money than lose it all going for a big win. I did exactly that for years and I learned it doesn't pay.
I will tell you why saving my pot shot money until the end of the day works better for me. It's easier for me to quit and walk out.

I save my pot shots for the end, but I definitely have an all or nothing approach. Going home a half loser has never been satisfying for me. But then, I only gamble on vacation and bring what I'm prepared (expected) to lose. The final pot shots are exciting and something to look forward to. A slim last chance at a big payout before I head home.
It's usually only about $100 set aside for those plays, that I'll take a shot with whether I'm ahead or not. Separate budget, basically.

I play VP a full day each week plus vacations. That's a lot of negative VP. With today's video poker the way it is, I need a strategy to hold down my losses. I know I am going to lose long term. This means I am playing VP for some other reason than making a profit. If profit was my only motive, I wouldn't step into a casino. There are far easier ways to make money.
So, why do I go? To enjoy time with my friends, take my wife somewhere that she enjoys, get out of the house for a day and try to beat the casino one day at a time. In the long run, I know they will win. If I can reduce the cost, I can play more hands which means I get more fun for my entertainment dollars.
Over the years I have been playing video poker, I tried it all. I flew to Vegas and played full pay games. I switched games and denominations. I played single coin and max coins. I used progressive betting schemes and flat betting. Nothing I tried ever made money over time. The way I play VP now, produces the most entertainment for my money. Everyone's definition of entertainment is different. That's why our strategies are different.

I still can't fathom why you, or anyone else for that matter, can't stay home and play the same games, get the same "entertainment", and have it cost you absolutely no money as opposed to giving it to the casino owners. This doesn't just apply to VP players. It applies to any casino game. If I could ride roller coasters in my house, I'd never go to an amusement park.

I believe this is my first post. so here it goes.
On the RNG debate, i personally do not think they are being manipulated in this day and age. However in an earlier post someone asked if anyone was caught, messing with the RNG or chip.
I thought what about the American Coin scandal?
There are too many links to post all. But a decent summary can be found at Las Vegas Adviser, QOD archives Dec 2, 2013. And if interested google the rest. I haven't read all the pages in this thread, so if this was mentioned, please forgive. Just some food for thought.

I like this question. I like fishing too. I can fish on my computer. Playing a fishing game on my computer is not the same thing as fishing for real. Part of the fun of going to the casino is the experience. The drive over and back. Watching people have fun. Meeting with my friends. The sound of the machines and "Yes" the smell of the place.Jstark wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2019 7:49 amI still can't fathom why you, or anyone else for that matter, can't stay home and play the same games, get the same "entertainment", and have it cost you absolutely no money as opposed to giving it to the casino owners. If going to the casino wasn't fun, why would anyone go there? Surely not to make money. Will online gambling put casinos out of business? I don't think so.
