Re: A question(s) for Gronbog
no I am not being sarcastic . some what I consider very savy math people and my self a while ago were giving this concept.we even gave it a trial run on a simulator . start at 10 dollar wager lose 20 in a row which by the way will happen if sample size is high enough, and you will be wagering over one million dollars to win a dollar !!!!! sorry if u took offence !

OK, great. It seemed like you were playing devils advocate for the pro-martingale side. That's why I wondered if you were being sarcastic.

this mart system always interested me for the following reason, every wager on a close to even proposition but casino still has an edge can be beat given the following. infinite bankroll with ability to double up.as I said the double up can be done even with table limit by going to higher limit table even in an other casino . so I am making a neg expectancy bet every time but with a super large b roll and ability to double up at will I would never lose ! to me this is somewhat interesting !

I think that this is what draws people to the Martingale. The idea that it must somehow be defying the math. Practical considerations aside, as you approach infinity, your overall advantage when you finally win approaches zero because 1 unit divided by an almost infinite amount bet approaches zero. The theoretical possibility that you will never ever win another hand is then enough to make the overall edge negative.
Infinity is a tricky mathematical concept which is often difficult to reconcile with reality.

yes . I would think if u allow an almost infinite bankroll on one side of the equation, u should allow the possibility of an infinite losing streak on the other side of the equation !

This should have been a two post thread!
