If you guys ever follow quarterly reports of the nyse listed casino companies, nearly all of them lose money.

I am still surprised that casinos would offer games paying more than 100%.

Actually in most states, games with more than 100% base payback are just not allowed.

FPDW stands for full pay deuces wild, a 100.76% return game that is fast disappearing from casinos. I'm not sure what, in particular, you mean by the strategy question, as the strategy for full pay deuces is different from other versions in several areas. A major difference is that the 5 coin payout for four of a kind versus 3 coins for a full house dictates that you draw to one pair (take your choice) rather than draw to two pair, as you would do in most other deuces wild games where quads and full houses pay the same.

I'm not sure about "most states," but certainly some states have such a rule.

that rule only applies to the game itself, however (which presumably is what hophoofer meant when he said "base payback"). There is so much more to the return of a game than base payback --- including slot club, mailers, promotions, and meters on progressives.

If you limit yourself to playing when the conditions are in your favor, which sometimes happens in virtually all jurisdictions in the country, you can play video poker with an winning advantage.

If you're going to insist on conditions like
1. It must be for quarters (or any other specific denom)
2. It must be deuces (or any other specific game)
3. It must be when I want to play (as opposed to when the conditions are correct)
4. It must not be a progressive because I don't know how to play them (you're limiting a lot of good games when you believe this)
5. The promotion must be obvious because I'm not very good at figuring these things out

then you're going to frequently be playing at a disadvantage. As Hophoofer mentions, many casinos are losing money and they often will not INTENTIONALLY provide an advantage for you. Figuring out their mistakes is part of the fun! If you can't do it, you're taking the worst of it.

anyway I found this topic very interesting. we spend most of our vegas time downtown as the strip is no longer affordable for frequent long term visits. downtown video poker has always been the best especially the scratched quad cards at main street station! and benny binion steakhouse is the best.

I assume when you say most casinos you are talking about commercial casinos. Native American owned casinos are not Dow listed and there are plenty of them.

Since the games are not regulated in Native American casinos, they are excluded from my conversation by default.

Maybe they should have a talk with the natives over here in California. One of my home health patients rakes and $30,000 every month from the casino and every member of the family can get $30,000. That’s just one casino. Oh and don’t forget the occasional bonus sometimes up to over $50,000 .......
