rarely do i hear criticism about folks who collect antiques (old stuff), cars (i only need one), those who's goal is to play golf at famous courses (pebble beach almost $600 for one round), travel the globe (wuhan china), and all sorts of expenditures people make, that many would not do themselves. yet, for some, the idea of someone spending their money at the casino seems repulsive, even a 'sin'. is it less of a 'sin' to own 6 cars or live in a 5000 sq ft house, when 2000 will do. one person on this site asserts he knows the answer.
it is my belief that folks should be be able to do what they want, as long as it does not hurt others and they don't go running to the taxpayer for a bailout. if one wants to smoke, drink, gamble, shop themselves into obliviation, so be it. that is called freedom, it comes with responsibility and ramifications for poor decisions.
are there folks who's gambling is out of control, of course, but no stat i have read implies it is the majority. many at the casino are older, probably worked hard, saved a few bucks for entertainment, may have physical limitations that prevent other activities, enjoy the safety and excitement a casino offers, have accepted it is entertainment and will cost money, gets them out of the house, etc.
the world is full of people telling me i am a bigot, a racist and every other nasty name they can think of, just because i disagree with their viewpoint. we don't need more criticism for how one chooses to spend their money. if one wants to criticize someone, save it for those who want to spend MY money.

Oh boy.....I’m really in trouble. Not counting people meaning beautiful and loving wife, I love vp, antiques, especially clocks, old cars, and being near the beach. Oh well, can’t live forever and worked my a.. off 35 years not counting the years 8-21 where I always worked while growing up. Retired 16 years already, but most of that and still caring for parents now parent. No regrets, but time for a little fun. I say when the dust clears from this disaster we have now try and enjoy the time left.

I went for months at a time away from casinos because of my wife's illness. Doesn't mean I won't venture forward if I survive this pandemic and the country does as well. Then again, who knows what the future will bring. Ate out yesterday night, may be the last time for a few months or forever. Only time will tell.

Really too early to say. My outlook has darkened considerably. It feels hopeless.

You may be surprised to learn that I have hobbies that don't make a profit. I spend my money on things that bring me pleasure. Old hot rods bring me pleasure. I drive around town in a 1955 Thunderbird with a hopped up engine I built myself. Here's a pic below. I will never recoup all the money I have in this car. That doesn't bother me in the slightest. When I die, my son will probably donate it to charity.
Video poker brings me pleasure too. I don't mind the cost as long as I can control it. Is it possible to teach video poker without discussing profit? Would anyone buy a book entitled, "How to beat the casino playing video poker...Maybe?" Can a video poker expert be an expert if he/she doesn't make money playing the game? So few people do these days that I think a shift in strategy is needed. What I am trying to do is not keep people from going to the casino. I am trying to get them to think about what they do when they get there.
Too much money is invested in chasing losses that will never be recovered. Anyone who plays in a casino today knows what I am saying is true. (212 words)

Only 212 is a definite improvement FP.
Seriously there are some very honest and introspective posts in this thread about attitudes toward the
game we love/hate. I have learned a bit and consider each of you to be a valued resource.

The compression is higher than stock. I run pump 93 octane gas and it runs fine. It took me a long time to find this car. I wanted a rust free, raven black exterior, red interior, manual transmission with overdrive car. This car spent it's early life in West Texas. It's retired in Florida now, just like me.advantage playe wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2020 6:04 amnice car fl phil ! I guess it runs on unleaded regular ??
