I am lucky to have my kids and grandkids within 20 minutes of me at the Jersey Shore. Don't know how much longer I will put up high taxes, waste and fraud in NJ though.

CC, not trying to influence your decision, but a couple of things to consider;
-for many northerners, a winter trip to someplace warmer and sunny, is an annual ritual. if that is where you were to relocate, see how often the kids/grandkids come calling.
-buy a house with a pool (pools are commonplace in warm locations), live near the ocean (forget lakes..alligators) or live within a reasonable drive of a popular tourist spot (disney), and you might be surprised how quickly HOTEL CC fills up.
-as many of us age, ailments become more common. many warmer location houses are single story and no more fears of falling from slipping on ice.
-it isn't just that there may be no state taxes, but often reduced property taxes.
-when it gets hot, now you can go visit family/friends up north. use your tax savings to pay for it.

no place is perfect, pros and cons to every location. one must do their homework and know what they are looking for.

if one lives up north and...;
-likes lots of government services
-believes in destroying statues of columbus, lincoln, grant, washington, jefferson, etc.
-thinks everyone should get free healthcare, annual income, free housing, free college, etc.
-thinks your kids over age 10 need to be picked up at end of driveway by school bus, instead of walking 1/2 mile
-believes in defunding the police
-likes the gov't telling you what to do, how to live and how to think
-believes everyone is a racist

...please, do not move south or west. stay right where you are!

Notes, with all do respect, I could never live in Florida with the humidity, etc. To each his own but the desert southwest is for me. Maybe because I'm not a beach person.

Protest was a bust, local agitator was arrested with a few of his friends when they tried to block the AC Expressway. Local American Legion Riders protected a Veterans Monument.

Would like to visit Ocean casino but that part of the city is not good. Will stick with the marina

i specifically mentioned that no place was perfect, there were pro and cons to any location. most folks i talk to who live on the east coast, prefer to stay on east coast. and, with all DUE respect, it is not like the desert does not offers it's own perils and challenges to live there.
