Small BR vs Large BR
i was thinking alot about bankrolls lately, and suppose if someone like Bob dancer had a 60k bankroll starting out? would he have done anything different? would he have relaxed more during the losing weeks? a novice starting out spells disaster but the point still stands bankroll is like your tool, a small weak bankroll would be like a shovel and a large bankroll would be a drill, ofcourse he one with the more pricey tool would get to the diamonds first
any thoughts on bankrolls?

That’s an interesting analogy. A more violent but nonetheless relevant one: don’t bring a knife to a gunfight. Quarter play loses its luster with a puny $31 or $62 quad. Be all in at least every other trip and get some satisfaction from the stressful excursion. I’ve criticized Olds’ recent grand BR splurge. But $200 ain’t providing strong bang for your hits. Invest in your tools.

If you bring a really small bank roll with you because that’s all you can afford most likely you’re going to run into a cold streak and lose it all and I have done that more times than I can count. Another thing that happens with a small bankroll is you might hit something pretty good early on assuming you were going to do well the rest of the session again more times than I can count when that happens it turns south almost immediately after hitting something any good and you will bust your bankroll again. I have to agree with what Bob always writes and that is the only thing that matters are the results at the end of the year so if you don’t bring enough money with you to play with until you are ready to go home, you are likely to get desperate when your funds get low and start playing crazy and all over the place. Again have done that more times than I can count. The most important thing of all To remember is don’t play with any money that you cannot afford to lose and play with the best pay table that you can find. In this climate it is getting harder and harder to find a good PT eval’s in the comps and incentives are getting smaller and smaller in general as the casinos are trying to tighten their belts to make up for Covid related business decisions

Yes. The small BR has those two distinct disadvantages. Cold streak and sayonara. Great hits, unwarranted inflated confidence and sayonara. Yesterday, I got two max quads in thirty three minutes, on each of the two available full pay machines. The give back and second guess recrimination would have surely ensued at either. I left, did some shopping and evaluated the outdoor dining arrangements in town. I walked more than expected, but returned with a much fuller wallet than expected. In AC, the pay table is usually your friend. Lean into it.

Very interesting guys. I guess the main ingredient in the mix has to be your objective.
BR enough for what? If you want to win all their money you better have an edge and a Brinks truck backed up to the loading dock.
Have an enjoyable three day comped trip with a Steak-House comp and other top card amenities?
Whats the BR for that objective? Haven't figured that out yet but i am working on it.

Some people have a goal for each casino trip. Either play for X number of points, or play for X hours while a promotion is in progress. Then you can figure out how much money you need to take to the casino. If playing bonus poker, you can lose half a royal in 3,000 hands on a bad day.

Sobering news. I play a lot of BP. I'll have to remember this rule of thumb.

You've been playing video poker for as long as you have, and weren't aware of this?

For all my bluster, I rarely exceed 1,000 daily hands, so it has not been an issue of any particular concern. Nor do I max bet anywhere near 100%. Now that my risk appetite is increasing, I do want to keep tabs on risk.

One thing I didn't see discussed was to play at a denomination relative to the size of your bankroll which will allow you to play max coin.
